Omg I started Mr. Queen and loved Hong Yeon’s facial expressions, took a little hiatus, ended up watching Forecasting Love and Weather, really enjoyed and made a note of Kim Soo Jin’s acting (and facial expressions) and not until I restarted watching Mr. Queen and looked up her character did I realize these two are the same actress. I hope to see her in a lot more projects, she’s truly talented
Thank you for such a well considered and thoughtful article, it was a joy reading and the effort put into writing this is so appreciated. Reading this reminded me of a translation course I was able to take and the ways it opened to my eyes to translation as truly an art form and as something that takes developed skill and effort to do 'well' and even still, much can be/is lost in the process. With that knowledge, wherever I watch something translated, I always wonder what is being lost on me as someone subtitle-dependent. Sometimes I'll even watch things on different platforms to compare translations and see if that can fill in any cracks or perhaps give me more insight into the heart of what story is actually being told. As I've began to watch more dramas, I've found (and would recommend to other consumers of media in their non-native language--especially non-Asian language natives--) that it can really enhance your (watching) experience by learning about the language and culture of the country the drama comes from; it gives you insight into what is actually being said and how it may be understood more in its home country-- the way its intended vs the meaning that the subtitles provide (although we c e r t a i n l y appreciate the efforts of all translators, they're doing the Lord's work!!!!!!!!!!!).
