Ahh yeah, the author of the original novels is the same for both dramas. This drama is shorter, but the story might be similar I'm not sure. So I hope they do better with this one!

Oh yeah, this is way ~heavier~ than korean fantasy dramas. The only other mermaid/merman drama I've seen was legend of the blue sea lol. And this is definitely different, but I still recommend giving it a try.

With this drama, I have sort of been watching some fansubs that are of good quality. So far, it is good! I personally like the plot and think it's interesting, it depends on your taste tho! I also like the characters and their stories. I also think the effects are not bad. Well, the effects are not bad compared to other really bad ones haha. I have actually heard that the ending was a bit rushed, so not too sure about that. But I will definitely be watching when official subs come out -- of what I've seen so far, I am willing to wait and watch.
Perhaps someone who has watched the whole drama would be able to answer this better, but personally I say to wait and watch! :D And in the meantime, you can watch some other Chinese dramas ;)

I'm so excited for this drama, and I'm trying not to have high expectations but it's so hard lol. The acting should be amazing, and hopefully the actual plot will be equally amazing. Either way, with only 20-something episodes, I doubt it will drag or anything. Anyways, it's coming soon!! :D

Completely agree! I didn't understand anything in the first few episodes, but I stayed and ended up loving it. After, I got more and more into the whole MDZS world... it's amazing lol. I personally loved it, but I can understand that it's not for other people -- some will not like it and that's fine! I am glad I gave it a chance tho... :D

I do recommend continuing, for both The Untamed and Joy of Life, because those actually became two of my favorite cdramas!! In my opinion, Joy of Life is intriguing, and The Untamed is highly memorable -- both are amazing dramas.
Of course, that's just my opinion. Don't force yourself, and don't feel bad if you can't connect with them! Maybe there's just something about them that you can't like, and that's fine! Again, it took me a few episodes to really like both dramas, and I am now at a place where I can say that those are two of my favorite cdramas. So, I definitely recommend continuing. But, please don't feel like just because of the high ratings or good comments, you HAVE to like it! ...because it's fine if you don't! :D
