Definitely writers' attempt to delay dealing with the issue head-on ....smh - they missed such a good opportunity for the audience to get absorbed in the raw emotions that would have come with a confrontation

Tbh i think we are forgetting that he did stand up to his mother but he didnt see FL for 12yrs ...thinking she abandoned a baby ... their baby!! He hunted for her and only tried to give up when she seemed to not react to her child -- it never crossed his mind she thought that child was dead !!
U can see he tries to be respectful and stand up to his mother with his son...but she helpes raise him while the real mom was never there.... he got his own winery and doesnt work under her ...
