Those women were offered to him. They work as spies bcos ML is the most powerful official in the kingdom. He doesn't care about those women and never touches them. Those women also don't fight for his love. He will eliminate them with the help of FL.

Regarding the multiple wives - it’s not really about them fighting for his attention. None of that. He not romantically interested in any of them, not even the Fl (nor is she interested in him romantically). He very focused on his work and trying to purge corruption. She focused on staying alive in a foreign country and taking care of her family. The ladies in the house are all part of this web of balancing government power.

When I read the book (these passages you mentioned), I read them as something that didn't fit the story. (Clearly the female writer wanted to create an anti-hero, someone troubled but redeemable), but she overdid it. (If there were an editor who helps writers, he would say, take that part out, take that part out, I know what your real intention is.) The book mentions that he is someone who has been wronged, etc. (The scriptwriters of the drama understood the draft of the book better than the female writer) and wrote and rewrote him better for the drama (a troubled, hurt, but fair man), someone redeemable. I can't read the book (thinking those passages are plausible), but I see the general outline of the book. I don't know if I made myself clear. I hope so.

I absolutely felt the novel was crappy and shit . FL being so pathetic enough to accept him after all shits he had done to her . In the first few chapter he raped her and let another girl named A'dai being sAed by his armys . He always compared her to another girl (luo mei )and did horrible shit and told her she was just a servant and called her names . Took advantage of her and still FL forgives him at the end . Tbh he was never her home which she wandered all long. However in the drama they have changed many things and I feel it is much better and makes more sense . The plot is much more appropriate and acceptable. They changed ml character while there are certain resemblance to the novel . I absolutely loving the drama and looking forward for the updates .

The book has 246 chapters. I read up to 127 (I want to continue reading the rest), and I read the spoilers from readers who read the entire book. Putting both perspectives together, I think this story is wonderful (in the sense of the development of the love story, surrounded by dangers between life and death, and the change in the life story of the main couple because they met (this is what readers say because this female writer always likes to write about imperfect, flawed people, but who help each other to be better people. Both grow together as better people through their coexistence). And the ending is tremendously beautiful and dramatic.
