There is a huge difference between scenarios if you consider it in context …having an emotional connect and feelings is what that makes difference…both leads are validating their emotion and struggling with their feelings, and the reason why FL immediate response was not pushing validates the difference between all scenarios…
In ep 7, looks like the writer added the SFL cheating plot to justify ML cheating behaviour. Also, the FL saying…

Definitely ML is being manipulated by SFL..I won’t share my theory as you haven’t watched 8 eps, but ML is victim of his destiny…it’s fantasy with magic involved so it’s not conscious decisions always so this 2 legged race doesn’t bother me as much as it triggers me with other characters.
