No I’m with you on this? Her character just seem off, she wears that sad expression all the time but really…
Actually, she wasn't raised by Ge Shi (GS, YY's mom) at all. She was sent away as a baby as GS believed that she would bring back luck and would prevent her from having sons or something like that..... so YY actually did grow up in a very loving household... it wasn't just her aunt either, it was also her grandfather who doted on her a lot.
C-dramas sometimes just don't know how to balance a "kind of bad, but sympathetic character". They go so far with…
If the Drama follows the novel closely, YS wil have a lot more screen time in future. His character will be better developed later on. Don't give up on him yet!
I don't hate him but he is annoying. Dude needs to learn to read the room and get on with it or get out of the…
He doesnt, partly because he doesn't think her worthy yet. It isn't until she becomes a "proper lady" that he deems her worthy enough. (Again, this is the novel version of events)

In the novel, he wasn't actually her first choice. hahahahaha. The current crown prince was her first choice and she asked him point blank, "will you marry me". He got so scared he ran away, fell down a hill and injured himself. It was a ridiculously funny scene in the novel.
No. there is very little talk about her mother after SS becomes supervisor of the Ex-Queen's palace. But there…
I heard from the rumormill that the drama's treatment of the mother daughter relationship is quite different. Something about a battle involving both mother and daughter and the mother finally apologizing for her treament of SS before she dies. I hope the rumormill is correct, this would be a better ending. haha. gives us some hope.

Yes, but in a prideful way - the drama is quite accurate in portraying her. I like him but i dont want to tell him but i still want him to notice me but if i cant have him no one can. So she goes about it in a ridiculous way - like framing him for rape and killing a maid. Her ending is quite sad though so i think a lot of people were happy with her ending.
I think the drama has a more angsty vibe than the novel. But the drama also has more comedy to even out the angst.…
I've read the entire novel until chapter 179, but i can't seem to find the epilogue. I was so confused when people were talking about their life after marriage cause Chapter 179 pretty much ends with her confession to him. Do you have a link?
The most heartbreaking scene for me in the novel was when the king and queen asked LBY (now HBY) whether his need for revenge was so strong that he was willing to give up CSS. He replied yes. HBY didn't know that CSS was behind a curtain listening to his answer. When HBY saw CSS, he panicked and begged CSS to listen to him explain. He was also tearing up and staring at the Queen silently begging the Queen not to tear them apart. Then SS gives a heartbreaking monologue and asks for the engagement to be broken off. The king and queen grant SS's request.
I just noticed princess yucheng is not in the cast for part 2, does that mean we will see less of her??
In the novel, yuchang is actually only a small villan with a small role. She is more of a connecting role to explain the relationship between her grandmother/LBY's step-mother - who are both crucial characters is uncovering evidence of LBY's fake father's crimes. She was eventually married off, the book doesnt really say much about her marriage partner but there is a sense that it isn't a very good marriage.
Her villan role is taken over by the 5th princess and 5th princess' good friend - the girl who ends up reuniting with LBY when he is exiled to the border.
okay quick question for people who have read the novel, i saw this question and i would like to know too, does…
No. there is very little talk about her mother after SS becomes supervisor of the Ex-Queen's palace. But there is one scene which stuck out to me in the novel. When the Ex-Queen was first dethroned, she refused to eat and in essence threw a large scale adult tantrum. So SS heard and approached the third prince to allow her entry into the palace so that she could help the Ex-Queen get back up on her feet. When SS walked away, she turned back and told her mother, don't worry, i'll just be gone for a while i'll be back soon.... but in a sad and melancholy way... almost as if SS knew that she was officially leaving the Cheng home. Her mother's internal monologue in the novel describes a situation where her mother pretty much acknowledges that she has lost her daughter forever. The mother collapses and becomes ill for several days. There is a lot of regret and sadness in this scene and i'm not doing it justice, but it was a very poetic scene which in a way signalled the "end" of the mother/daughter relationship. There is very little about the mother after this scene. And after she enetered the Ex-Qeen's palace, she didnt go back to the Cheng home, rather the King gave the Cheng house an imperial edict letting them know that SS is now the Ex-Queen's palace supervisor and wont be home for abit, this is also when the king rewarded them with some money/benefits/face.

She was given the job of Supervisor of the Ex-Queen's Palace. It's more of a job than a title. But because she…
Nope. she was in charge of the finances as part of her job, like a CFO. But she was rewarded very often and very generously. Once, she was tasked with cleaning up the Queen's palace during the handover by the Ex-Queen to the Queen. She received 2 chests full of money from 2 different people as a reward for a job well done. This incident also changed the Queen's impression of her.
Question: in the novel does CSS actually get a title or rank up or something during that 5 year separation from…
She was given the job of Supervisor of the Ex-Queen's Palace. It's more of a job than a title. But because she did her job so well, the King, Queen and Ex-Queen gave her (and her family, esp her father) a lot of "face"/respect/honour and rewarded her (and her family) with much riches. I suspect it's more of a compensation for taking away their daughter - it felt like it in the book anyway. When the Ex-Queen became sickly, she took over control of all of the Ex-Queen's finances.
Her villan role is taken over by the 5th princess and 5th princess' good friend - the girl who ends up reuniting with LBY when he is exiled to the border.
