An acceptable start! Loved the introduction of the characters but the different branches and departments were kinda confusing at first.
The drama depicts the organizational dynamics especially the resignation issue very well on the first ep. The pace is a bit slow but I’m still looking forward to it because of the ending ++ Lee Sang Yeob's $30K bike 🤣
I'm literally going crazy rn 😣 I've been rewatching Arthdal Chronicles an unhealthy number of times. PLEASE PLEASE make season 2 happen i miss the mysterious hottie yangcha
There's No Such Thing as Fate. Nevertheless: An Acceptable Start!
The pilot episode is intriguing in every way. It does a great job of introducing the characters and creating the mood by showing the audience what to expect: a hyper-realistic relationship between a provocative man and a woman who wants to date but is ambivalent towards love.
Script: The storyline offers a unique narrative because it features a 'friends-with-benefits' trope, which is rarely seen in Korean dramas. It also has the capacity to be brimming with sheer romance and tension. This pilot episode piqued my interest since the main leads dialogues, and lovely encounters made me feel cheesy. HOWEVER, as noted in other comments, certain moments are unsettling to watch due to the presence of toxic and immature behavior. There were some unpleasant scenarios in which the ML invades the FL's boundaries, somewhat manipulates, and constantly touches her. With this, what struck me is the FL's naivety in allowing him to act without consent.
Acting: The chemistry between Song Kang and Han So-Hee is undeniable. Their visuals are on another level too! This is my first viewing of the ML, and while the f*ckboy part is ideal for him (bc he's freakin HOT), his delivery lines were a little lackluster. The FL's timidity and shyness were realistically portrayed. I just hoped that she would mature into a somewhat strong and perceptive woman since her character has a lot of opportunity for improvement. If this is a relationship wherein toxic people get toxic together and doesn't progress, I'll gladly drop it.
Production: The mellow, bluesy OSTs are a relaxing watch. I enjoyed the captivating filming locales and dreamlike cinematography, which added to the drama's appeal. So far, the first episode has been a bit of a pleasure to watch.
