I enjoyed reading this! I really like how you were really graceful to NDS' character. I'm in the minority of being…
Aw thank you, you're too kind :) HJP is my ideal male lead but I totally shipped SDM and NDS together because of the cute scenes in this drama so I 'm kind of on the same boat as you

super late but...wow thank you so much for sharing and elaborating on some of these points! Definitely opens up new perspectives about this drama and maybe it will motivate me to watch again with these thoughts in mind :)
Guys...I wrote an essay... I know there’s a lot of backlash against this drama, and I’m sad that a lot of people didn’t see it the same way I did. ☹ I kind of saw NDS and HJP as a conflict between our innermost desires and the person that we are forced to be (kind of a long read but pls hear me out).
HJP represents the life that most of us lead. He was forced to mature at an early age and understood the stark reality of life/business. He is forced to criticize people’s business ideas b/c..that’s LITERALLY his job. I applaud him for comparing his critical nature to that of a person interested in a product: criticism is warranted ONLY if there’s an interest. HJP’s refusal to accept his feelings for Dalmi is something that’s very relatable. There was no point in the drama that hinted HJP had feelings for Dalmi when he wrote the letters to her all those years ago; he simply saw her as a little sister/friend that he liked writing to. HJP didn’t even think about Dalmi until Grandma mentioned the letters to him. But once he started developing feelings, he knew all too well what the consequences would be and was afraid that Grandma would think differently of him if he told the truth. He is forced to hide under a mask, like all of us, so that he can survive out in the world which eventually led to his success. It’s heart-breaking and we relate so much to his character b/c we see our struggles play out in HJP.
On the other side, there’s NDS who represents the immature, hidden side of ourselves. His greed and violent actions are all things that people can imagine themselves doing when placed in situations they don’t like. Yes, I would never do the reckless things that NDS did during the series (smashing the nameplate, punching HJP) but there’s been instances where I also wanted to punch someone because they told me something I didn’t want to accept or hear. Then, with the time-skip, his *kind of dumb and very unrealistic* support for Dalmi to participate in the bid for the Smart City was mostly due to the development of his confidence after working for a global company and figuring out his self-worth. He firmly believes in Dalmi’s abilities as a CEO and his coding abilities to win the bid wars against other already-established corporations. NDS has developed as he grew out of his insecurities and did not lash out in the same immature ways he did pre-time skip. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a HIGHLY flawed character, but that’s just a perfect illustration of how we all are as humans: we are all selfish dreamers deep inside where we wish only the best for ourselves and desire to escape reality.
This drama isn’t perfect, but I empathized with both the male leads and wish people could look past the romance (or failed romance) and watch it under a different lens.
If you made it this far…thank you for giving up your precious time and I hope you can (or try to) understand the perspective of someone who gave this drama a high rating.
this is what i hope the writer-nim to see so the mistake won't happen again in the future, but wonder if our view…
Hey, sorry if I took your comment out of context, I just saw that your “Well done, writer-nim” sounded sarcastic after giving a negative review.
I don’t think the message was toxic at all, the production team is sharing a story that shows characters that are flawed in many ways. The characters’ motivations, lies, and greed are all part of being human. Maybe the moral message that you took from this drama is very different than what I got and that’s fine, you’re entitled to your own opinion and I’d like to share mine.
I didn’t rate this drama a 10 (I have to admit that I still gave a high rating of 9), and I don’t want to make it seem like I’m trying to force people into thinking a different way. However, I just didn’t think it was respectful to say a snarky comment (which I thought you were doing in your original comment, apologies if it wasn’t) to the writer and production team when there are people who truly loved this work.
personally really liked the whole thing; it's definitely a love or hate type of drama so I think you should at…
ohp well no worries I won't force it on you if you don't want to watch!
I know I didn't like some dramas that had high ratings, but ended up loving some that had very low ratings. So I always recommend that people watch and form their own opinions on it :)
this is what i hope the writer-nim to see so the mistake won't happen again in the future, but wonder if our view…
It's really interesting seeing other people's opinions because I thought what NDS did was very...realistic for a guy in his stage of life. His low self-esteem and inferiority complex were to blame for much of the so-called bad deeds, but he ended up growing out of it by the end; nobody's perfect. We all lie and when it comes to romantic love, it's even more difficult to do what's considered morally good.
I don't think it's wrong to disagree with how the story went and post your frustrations, but I do think it's wrong to bash on the writer/production team in a sarcastic manner like in your original comment for that reason.
Please remember that there are viewers who thoroughly enjoyed the show which proves that the Writer still did her job well.
Which reminds me of the quote: "Don't try to play to impress everyone. If you try to get 8 points from everyone...you might come in first place, but it could be better to get 10 points from 1 person and 6/7 points from the rest, because to that one person, it could be an unforgettable performance" - Do you like Brahms
Okay the scene at the end where Grandma comes visit Good boy broke me down. THIS, ladies and gentleman, is why…
Ya that scene broke my heart :'( but I don't think he ended alone. In the beginning of the series, he had no one, but in the end, he had grandma supporting him and she even told him that he should come see her when things are bad AND good.
So...while he may not have gotten a romance, he ended up getting a family (which I think is way more important)
I prefer Yong San and Saha, they were the one true OTP
omg haha i can see that working out too XD no hate but I actually was gonna ship Yong San with Injae when he apologized to her in the end lol very short scene but like...sparks
I absolutely loved this drama and didn't agree with other people's reasons for hating it, but everyone's entitled to their opinions ofc.
For the romance: I would choose HJP as my ideal man, ship NDS with SDM b/c they're supportive of each other, even if some things aren't realistic But all in all...I'm an Iced Vanille Latte stan <3
I don't know why...but I really liked this drama. Yeah nothing really happened but it seemed like a very realistic portrayal of a very unrealistic plot. I'm usually not the person who will continue watching a bad drama/movie just for the actors so I'm pretty sure it wasn't just PBG and PSD who made me stay until the very end. A lot of the problems were solved rather quickly so it made it seem like they were trivial from the start and there were some characters/plots that weren't developed enough. BUT some scenes really got to me and I could relate to the characters and their situations. I guess I kind of have a love/hate relationship with this drama but...I could totally watch it again.
Might be an unpopular opinion but I thoroughly enjoyed all of the episodes. To some people it might have been slow near the end but I'd like to think that the slow pacing was what made it realistic. Each of the characters needed time to heal and/or say goodbye to the problems they were faced with so the slow pacing, frustrations, and emotions all seemed beautiful. Definitely recommend for people who need some healing after a long, hard day :)
I haven't been able to get pass 5 episodes. I really want to love it because of Yoo Ah In...I adore him. Does…
I was kind of like you for the first few episodes (actually could not stand the FL) but for me it actually picked up at the ending of ep 5 because of the mysteries and then the bromance that followed! Personally, I'm really glad that I pushed through the inital episodes but then again I was a huge Hwi Young fan and the longer screen time for the past life trio in the later episodes definitely helped ;)
I absolutely adore this drama! Thought I wouldn't like it because it seemed like the story was just gonna use the plastic surgery thing to make the main character into a drop-dead gorgeous person, but it actually shows how it (surgery) can create other problems and the reality of what happens when someone chooses to go that route.
This whole thing about the older brother losing/altering his memories because of his guilt reminds me of the drama Hyde, Jekyll, Me and how the main character developed his DID....O.o
The story was not amazing but the relationships captured by the five friends was a true gem. As we grow older, we slowly drift away from our childhood friends/family/homes, and the memories they carry. This movie did a great job of bringing out those old memories and made me reminisce on my childhood days. But, as many others have said, the movie can be a little slow if you are not used to this type of "slice of life" genre.
So glad they made this in a drama format. The movie definitely needed more detail and this drama delivered! I loved how it stayed pretty true to the original manga and the pacing was good :)
