Now it looks as if Atom was just overreacting and there's no real reason for him to be scared of people finding out about them, almost invalidating Atoms (very understandable & realistic) fears

Listen I'm not the biggest fan of intimate scenes in general, but the ones in this show are especially uncomfortable. There is no reason for them to be that long or explicit like what did that add to the story T-T
