@assez I don't have a specific link right this moment, but I often see these kinds of polls posted on modelpress (on instagram) and the chil-chill.net website. I've taken note before on some of the results of them which is why it sprung to mind.

I think that this is a little bit misleading. Having an idol in the cast CAN be an indication that the kisses will be dead fish kisses but it's not THE defining factor. For instance, in your list My Personal Weatherman, Our Youth, When It Rains It Pours, Tokyo in April Is... (maybe more?) all star an idol.

I would say the more defining characteristic of when a show might have the dead fish kiss is more to do with the director, the target audience of the show, the time slot, the sponsors. I mean, if it was the actor who will take anything for the $$ they are probably going to want to BRING IT and do anything for the $$. They don't have the power to refuse a kiss.

Idols in particular may need to maintain a squeaky clean image. This is across straight and BL media. So that is why I say being an idol CAN indicate these kinds of kisses. (But.... even in Snow Man (Japan's biggest jpop group), Meguro Ren has only done blocked kisses or no kisses in his BL and straight romances (I think?), where as Mukai Koji skipped the dead fish and did some lips moving in his two BLs.... so no consistency there)

All in all it's just a different culture with different expectations. When looking at polls within Japan where people choose their favourite kiss scenes I am often surprised by what is chosen as popular. Fish kisses can rate highly in these polls. So it isn't seen the same as how we see them.

I can't remember if he popped up in episode 2 at all, but in episode 1 he came late to the school reunion and was hoping to run into someone there but was too late. According to here, his name is Kashiwagi Kei, played by Hayato. I don't remember if he said his name in the first episode.

Damn I was hoping that Kashiwagi was secretly pining for Taguchi; but that's because Takao Hayato is the last remaining member of One N Only to not star in a BL. YET

I just watched episode 3. I didn't think this show would be for me, but decided to try it out. I have to say it is quietly winning me over. I love that the MC doesn't really give a * about her boyfriend and is solely devoted to rebuilding her career.

The first episode is really cute! Looking forward to more of this.

Ah you mistake my tone! I speak Japanese and am aware of the marketing for this show. That, as well as the fact that we have starto entertainment jrs starring in the show, I knew where this show would land and had my expectations firmly in place!

I'm not commenting for BL as a marketing definition, but rather my own inner framework. I find it fascinating the distinction (within myself) as to the spectrum of works and where they sit (inside my own framework) as a pure fantasy land BL or a realistic LGBTQIA representation. Being queer myself I enjoy both and the wonderful mix of all of the above.

For my own inner reference, this to me is line a Disney BL, not unlike the cute family TV shows they had in the 90s and 00s (and maybe since but I have no idea what Disney is up to these days). It's "inoffensive" and cute and the whole family can watch, but it doesn't delve too deep into actual issues, it's all palatable for the masses. They can have the "deep issue" episode and everyone is understanding and it's solved with a hug.

And I don't mean that negatively or positively, it's just an observation. I think this kind of narrative is actually great for getting "normies" into LGBT+ acceptance. Or, it might make people feel less ashamed that they watch BL. These days we have such a wide range of stories there is definitely a place for this kind too!

I enjoyed the show a lot there was no disappointment from me. Although I see why you read my comment that way, as I can see the sea of disappointed people. I was just sharing my impressions of the show and stand by my assertion that to me this is a Disney BL. And maybe my comment might help others classify this in their brain too as such, but I think ultimately my comment, and yours, will be drowned unfortunately!

One episode left to go. This show dragged a bit in the middle but it seems like it's ending on a high. That ending to episode 11 had me cackling loudly OMG

It was the Disney version of BL, designed to not really sit in the BL space or the LGBTQIA space, it’s more of an introductory piece for people to dip their toes into the IDEA of BL or LGBT+ stories. So it’s very much got that Disney TV show feel to it. It’s very wholesome and doesn’t really present any confrontational ideas about the realities of being gay, or go full fledged into the idealized romance of BL. It gives a safe space to explore these kinds of ideas without delving too deeply into anything of substance. That also means that there was no real tension, no highs, no lows, no big payoff or grand romance.

That being said, it was a wonderful story with great characters, and I found myself really looking forward to each episode as it unfolds. Ultimately, as I said, no big high feeling of payoff of any romance, but all in all a sweet well executed story.

I think he's perfect for this role. He's very talented and has been in some well regarded roles way before M!LK became super popular in the last two years (Under the Miracle Cherry Tree was a heavy show he stared in). He has often played goofy roles like the one in this show (Escape, My Undead Yokai Girlfriend, Trillion Game etc). That, plus M!LK taking off in popularity, he's probably THE person for this role. They would have been silly to cast someone else.

I am enjoying this series a lot but at the same time I want to go back and binge it because it's a bit hard to keep time lines straight in my head week to week.
I want to say some of the camera work in this is brilliant. There are details happening in the background that I think might be easy to miss. I hope this ends in a satisfying way. I really want to rewatch.

I think this has been my greatest surprise this season. I guess because I wasn't expecting anything from this low budget show. But it has been a crack up, absolutely hilarious. The characters to me are surprisingly multifaceted. I can't wait to see what chaos happens next.

I was expecting maybe something a bit cliche, but it was instead fully aware of cliches and playing with them. I loved how silly it all was.

Honestly the only thing that would have made this better would have been if she could have chosen all of them. They all got on well by the end, why not make it a polycule!?!?!??!

👏 I had so much fun watching this! Maybe my expectations were low, but it far exceeded them. I was cackling with laughter. I will write a bit more in a spoiler tag!
