what I heard from other friends from here is that, Bai jue temporarily stopped the tribulation of chaos using his powers and stored piece of her soul rom fully disintegrating from existence. so when she becomes god of chaos again so tribulation will happen again, so to prevent that he is started cultivating power of chaos god and wanted to sacrifice his life instead of hers

As someone said below it got him no where being in the sideline. we saw how hurt houchi was and he is being the same inside, but too bad of me, I was a bit happy he got stabbed :)
