Nice article...haven't seen all the shows here but I definitely agree with the point about a damsel in distress disguised as a strong lead. I've seen so many shows present a female character in the first episode who is really strong but as soon as the male lead walks on screen, she suddenly loses all her power. I guess the point is that she can hold her own against any man *except* this super special alpha male who is her match or something but I kinda hate that. (This probably an unpopular opinion but this is the main reason why I couldn't watch Secret Garden. Female lead was super cool in the first ep and then...?) Anyway, keep writing away!
This was a fantastic drama until the heart-wrenching last episode. I should have seen it coming - the title gives it away - but History has only done happy endings until now so I was hoping for the best. I was really disappointed. I didn't think the death was thematically necessary. It was very abrupt and did not fit with the overall tone of the show...and we already have so much tragedy when it comes to productions with non-hetero relationships. Anyway...the first 9 episodes get a 10 star rating. The last one could be skipped and the story would feel complete (and happy). I do give props to the actors who were amazing throughout. I will definitely watch them in subsequent works!
Ahh so excited for the next episode! Honestly, this is already my favorite bl of 2019 :) Sometimes "enemies to lovers" isn't done very well but I'm already so invested in seeing how the relationship develops. <3
One of my favorites! The chemistry between the leads is fantastic and their relationship is much more realistic than plenty of relationships I've seen portrayed in K-dramas. It's a feel-good, fluffy drama that actually also has a lot of depth. The sensitive treatment of mental health issues specifically stuck out to me. This would be the drama I would recommend to a friend who'd never watched a drama before.
I loved the chemistry between the leads. It's my favorite version of this drama (and I've seen all of the versions!) The plot suffered a little in the second half...and I definitely did some fast-forwarding through scenes without our main couple. It probably should have been a 16 episode drama. However, it was over-all an enjoyable watch! If you like the other versions, definitely watch this one!
Also, who else thinks the little chick Chan takes care of is stealing the show? Soo cute.
