1. Because the crown prince's bride is much less powerful. Actually she isn't powerful at all. Her family didn't even try to cheat or lobby her in the show. The Mins, the queen's family used to be really powerful, they had their own intelligence service, their private army and so on. The crown prince wouldn't be a puppet of his wife's family, but the king himself was.

It was shown at the beginning of the show as her three sons were reading good and knew important texts by heart and the concubine's son was slacking (and he didn't have much education earlier). The third queen's son was future Sejong. You can see it in the subtitles.
