Started this series after Against the Current but LXY is the villain here 😭

Not just you, this series finale was really bad, the script went downhill...

Omg yes, yes and yes! I so disappointed by the mutiple huge plot holes... The show's opening is James house burning and they didn't even explain his father's death for fucks sake?? Ugh...

I've saved this show in "plan to watch" for ages, the ratings are good and all, but 78 eps... ugh, idk if I can invest this much time, I feel I'll drop it halfway :(

I don't think it's bad acting, it's the direction/script. No good acting can save a shallow/stereotyped character...

I'm still at ep 35, but I made the mistake of watching this after Against the Current and... It's so bland. Yes, I shouldn't compare, but LSY is so passive in comparison to XLX, she lacks the *rage* element while still being kind. Every shit her mother-in-law throws at her she'll just smile and agree?? WTF. I couldn't care less about the romance (I like these shows to watch FL development and feminism themes/undertones), but at least the misunderstandings are **not** shallow, the characters personalities/goals explain all that. Anyway, will finish soon, but meh :(

That's exactly my thoughts, the villain was so over the top that sound rather comical, every 5 minutes she'd laugh hysterically... ugh

Thanks I was bothered by it too, but couldn't understand why!! That's exactly it. Too much nationalism for me.

I guess that didn't happen cause romance *is not* the center of this story, but it's implied that they'll become lovers again in the red-string scene. I guess finishing with her alone, getting old and accomplished, ultimately cleaning the Shen family name, it's great to show that love is not necessarily the main goal of a women's life.

The pivotal shift is when LX says their path differs fundamentally, and JQ cannot understand until she explains how she doesn't believe in monarchy and rising through ranks within the imperial court. She only accepts him (note how I say accepts, not love) after he understands that and sets his mind to leave officialdom, cause for him, as a noble, that's a huge step - to let go of power. She's basically asking him to choose between her and wealth/power. At least that's my view of it. That's also the fact she's *not* LX, and had to keep this secret really deep inside, so I guess she only opens her heart completely to him, i.e., loves him back, after he finds out her identity and let her now that he'll never betray her and also ask for forgiveness for what he and his family did to the Shen family.

But I'm confused, wasn't Lici heart condition bc he was harmed by an arrow? But the child who was harmed is not the 4th prince??

Seems a new person, cause her mother said she'd fall in love again. At least that's what I understood.
