A captivating and moving movie about the modern history of the South Korean democracy movement. Difficult to comprehend that this movie is not fictional, and that most of sequenced events in this film happened in real life. I was initially told to watch this from my Korean history teacher in university, but I took interest in it myself. As an Eastern European, I have learned that the pro-democracy movements in the 1980s were based on sacrifice and the will of the people not only in Korea, but the rest of the world at specific decade as well. The actors have portrayed true emotions, and there were so many storylines of various characters intertwined with harmony. Even as someone not Korean, it was very easy to follow the storyline and to see what the good and evil were. Every minor detail, from set design to props, had mesmerised me. I did shed a few tears, but this was a great learning experience, and a very interesting movie to watch! Was this review helpful to you?

Breath of fresh air that (also) took me out of the Kdrama slump
Was a bit of a shocker not finding any positive reviews until the very recent reviewers.Although yes while the plot is very overused and includes typical Korean drama cliches for time travelling, crazy stalkers, however isn't this what dramas are all about? A massive thing that differentiates this one is the fact that both leads are true to their feelings from the very beginning, very green flags all around which is difficult to find in mainstream shows. Did I find myself shouting at the female lead asking her to communicate better? Maybe. But without much flaws like these, the show was very enjoyable and quite literally made me watch Kdramas again after 4 year hiatus. Safe to say this is going into my favourites list, and better yet, I'm rewatching this again with friends and my partner!

I'm guessing that I'm only in the minority here, in the circle of people that found this drama only decent. The only adjectives that I can think of at the moment to describe this drama are draggy and boring. Sure, the beginning was really intense and I thought that I seriously got hooked. The plot line was unique and really interesting to follow, however, I strongly believe that the drama was just too long. I kind of lost it somewhere in the middle. The same cases and problems got stretched out into a couple of episodes, which I found completely unnecessary actually. Seeing the star-studded cast working together was kind of cool but I do think that the main couple lacked chemistry. In my opinion, In Ha's character didn't hit my image of Park Shin Hye one bit. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the performance of the various side characters, who made the drama really diverse. But that's kind of it. I can't find any more reasons why I liked the drama. Towards the end of watching the series, I really wanted to end it and to start watching something better. So, would I rewatch it? Nahhh...
Lastly, I'm going to mention that I went in to watch this just because it gained so much positivity and great reviews so probably my expectations were unrealistic for this. It's a different story that you might or might not enjoy, depending on your actor and genre preferences.

The storyline is great, the whole movie is not draggy at all and focuses on different characters. Speaking of characters, I fell in love with the cast and they became my "dream time" of some sort, if I were to be in a zombie apocalypse. There is nothing much to say really, other than that you HAVE to watch it! It will put all of those American zombie movies to shame. Just don't forget your napkins and some popcorn, because were going to Busan! (cheesy, I know ) :D

No wonder this drama is considered a classic and one of the best out there, it has been on my "to watch" list for way too long. It combines so many genres like slice of life, friendship, romance and comedy. However, the themes of this drama are timeless, and so many viewers can relate to the characters and their problematic situations. There is just something magical and nostalgic about the whole setup of the series: if you are a 90s baby, you will feel very strong attraction and joy to the small details and touches. Additionally, the jumping between timestamps are very easy to follow and created a nice linear story for this show. It reminded me of my childhood, while having on a smile for the whole time. Personally, I loved the fact that the drama was mainly set in Busan, rather than the overused Seoul setting. The characters were so loveable and unforgettable, and it is fascinating how the actors pulled off the quirky Busan accent throughout the drama. As always, a strong female lead is appreciated, and Eunji was one of the best actresses to fulfil the role of a "thug" girl. Do not start watching this drama if you are expecting the cheesy romance, because the romantic aspects in the show are so unconventional. The relationships built between the characters seem very genuine and heart-warming. Finally, Reply 1997 showcased so many great Kpop musicians and bands at the time, and even the OST was a mix of Korean and English songs, which added an overall nice touch.
Once again, Reply 1997 proves that Korean dramas about everyday life can be amusing and very captivating. Please do yourself a favour and watch this masterpiece! Cannot wait to watch the other Reply sequels!

After all of the positive things I have heard about this popular Kdrama, I have decided to finally give it a go. It took me a very long time to finally finish the series, I kept on stopping and putting it off after intervals of watching 2-3 episodes of the show. I can see why it is that popular: the cinematography, the lovable cast, the amazing OST and the fantasy theme that takes you back to the times when Goblin was still airing. But I will never fully understand when people say it is their favourite drama. Personally, it is lacking in so many various fields, especially with the levels of engagement. As mentioned before, I was about to drop the show, but it suddenly became very good towards the end. Why did the director and the scriptwriters keep us on edge right from the beginning, but instead decided to make the drama full of thrill at the end? It is mind-boggling. However, I did enjoy the complete storyline, as I am a fan of folklore and the Korean cultural elements, which dominated the drama. IU was a brilliant actress for this drama, and she keeps on improving and improving with every role that she acts. Additionally, I loved the fashion and overall aesthetics that she brought out. The male lead, on the other hand, I did not like: nor his character, nor his acting or the chemistry between him and IU. The tragic love story of the hotel owner tore me to pieces, and I wish they would have chosen to reincarnate the general. I would say the secondary characters were more favourable than the leads. Moreover, the amazing OST is a huge part of why I like this show too. There are so many great singles, all equally as beautiful and sung by very talented singers. In the end, would I recommend this drama? Yes, I feel like it is a definite staple of a drama to watch, but for me, it is a watered down version of Goblin. There is definite room for improvement, but it is a great watch with fascinating cinematography and soundtrack! Was this review helpful to you?

It's one of the best dramas of 2017 unarguably. It might not seem like that at all from the first glance. If you look at the plot, you have most definitely seen this story somewhere else and you can predict how the story is going to turn out eventually. However, classic stories like these make watchers somewhat nostalgic. Actually, it's not the story that draws in people to continue watching, but the magnificent and heartfelt dialogues between the characters. I was really inspired by some of the best quotes that were spoken during the dialogues and monologues. Also, I really enjoyed the 3 different love storylines in the series. They all focus on 3 completely different couples, their problems, their wishes and chemistry. Speaking of love sparks between characters, I though that the main couple was so adorable! Although the cast wasn't that star-studded, now I'm a an of some new actors. And as always, a good OST is a must for me to rate a drama highly. Personally, it's one of the best soundtracks in a drama that I've ever heard! Especially the tracks "Everyday" by Hae Bin and "Marriage" by MoonMoon just colored the drama with emotions!
This drama will definitely be added to my favorites list. I'd rewatch it again and again, so please, start watching it too!

Unlike many other dramas, this one had a very disappointing beginning of the story, while it progressed into something that I really enjoyed. Believe me, it got soooo much better towards the end. The biggest issue for me were the characters. Was it the acting? Was it supposed to be like that? The actors couldn't act out simple scenes and made me feel quite awkward, actually. Nam Joo Hyuk's acting in particular. I've seen many of his roles before but playing Habaek didn't suit him. Furthermore, let's take a look at the main female character. I hate it when the female lead is presented as weak and as a crybaby. However, with many negative reviews, I wouldn't completely neglect some of the aspects of this drama. The main focus for me was the OST. Aaaand that's why I gave the music a solid 10. The songs were heartfelt and perfect for the drama, kind of reminded me of Goblin's OST.
Overall, the drama isn't as bad as the people review it. Sure, the acting sucked and it was filled with plot holes, but there are many great scenes that filled me with joy. Would I rewatch it? Probably not. Would I recommend it? Sure, for those of you who have seen all of the brilliant romance dramas out there and you have nothing better to watch.
