right i wanted to see her redempt at first, but seeing her nature until last second. her ass would be in denial…
"Even a child needs to be addressed of their wrongdoing". Is exactly the whole point of Nari's character, her circle should've called out her BS a long time ago, they let her get more and more self-centered and delusional because they didnt want to hurt her feelings. Her making a curse in the potential season 2 is so obvious. I honestly did not appreciate that part, it should've been wrapped up.
right i wanted to see her redempt at first, but seeing her nature until last second. her ass would be in denial…
For a character who only had 1 episode of screen time, she is so well written its perfectly plausible to understand her actions and still hate her. Someone less kind than Hyeryeong would've "exposed" Siwon in the middle of that bullying scene, Siwon's secrets are way more "gossip" worthy, but that is why I appreciate the writing. Staying silent is exactly Hyeryeong's character, her kindess and timidness prevent her from standing up to herself. I can't bring myself to hate Child characters as an adult and i always try to understand them but yea again her redemption can only exist in the eyes of Hyeryeong, the audience isnt invited.
right i wanted to see her redempt at first, but seeing her nature until last second. her ass would be in denial…
Honestly with how dire the situation was ( Siwons mother literally dying) she could've definitely tried harder to explain, not just to siwon but to people around them. But it is no fault of hers, her kindness for Siwon prevents her from talking about it infront od others because it will let everyone know who the shamans dauhgter really is. Siwon's refusal to accept proper communication with her mother was an even earlier problem that made her hide from her family's state. Desecration of the shrine is an act of defiance against her mother, she doesn't understand what the shrine is for because she always ran from her mother, she hates shamanism bcz she thinks it killed her father, doing something that is out of her own anger against her mother, one that is wrongly built up. You can clearly see how those little choices of avoiding communication drastically add on to her clouding judgment and pulled out the bad decisiosn from her mind. Her actions make her a bad person, especially using violence, but i do think she herself is also a victim of misunderstandings. i feel bad that she never got to understand what her mother was doing, and what her friend was doing, remember they're both just kids. Its not up to us to ask for Siwons redemption, the only person who could is Hyeryung who seemed to have found some peace in episode 8 after being freed from the curse, encouraging Siwon to also let it go and end things. By no means that faults anyone else, i dont believe anyone is at exclusively at fault.
right i wanted to see her redempt at first, but seeing her nature until last second. her ass would be in denial…
if you look at it from a different angle, she is a victim. Never had a good talk with her friend. Her resentment built up due to severe misunderstandings and her friend never tried to clear matters. She acted out from the perspective of a victim getting revenge because she lacked all context.
She doesn't know why her dad really died, she blames her mother(rightfully), catches her closest friend repeatedly around her mother she which she forbade, thinks her friend is learning shamanism( friend doesnt clarify otherwise), catches friend planting a bloody ritual paper in her coat, friend doesnt re-attempt to clear up matters, " she ignores my deepest wishes, is now cursing me, and also ruining my social life too, ill show her, ill getback and ruin her social life" .
She is a bad person due to her actions, but its not like she isnt a victim of miscommunications, both her and Do. That's the curse's origin, there's no clear villains in curses.
Brilliant production of a great horror story, the mood of the show never lacks and always keeps you tense and focused (IF) u actually pay attention to what is happening ( a difficult skill judging by the comments). I enjoyed this way more than i had initially assumed i would, a well maintained mood, well written character dynamics, a curse with brilliant implications that compliment those dynamics, its not the most compact story but it is definitely a great piece of korean horror, the identity is proudly loud and clear
A couple important points ( spoilers)
How do you watch the final episode and still fail to recognize who the actual antagonist is? The story hints several times, from the beginning " That girl your pointing at is not the shamans daughter, its actually this girl here", "There was two of them in the room ", and then episode 8 happens and the show screams at you who the curse is AND who CAUSED it.
Mind you, neither cursed girls are "villains", they are closer to victims of misunderstandings and poorly handled communications ( or the lack of them). Its important to try and understand how much of a roller-coaster teenage girlhood is on the emotional spectrum and how easily teens can form bad judgement.
The story executes Nari's character so well, she is supposed to piss you off and No that doesnt not make her badly written. This is a rich, spoiled, self-centered, pretty privileged, judgmental, close-minded, tantrum throwing girl with anger issues; and the real problem is her friends ( mainly Seah) do not check her attitude and call her out. A direct paralled to Hyeryung never standing up to Siwon properly and putting their misunderstandings in place, the curse that originated from bitterness brewed by a severe lack of communication was always going to destroy another relationship lacking communication. Nari and Seah do not speak heart to heart, the latter never checks her friend's attitude letting the prior build up resentment. The same way Hyeryung not having the courage to stand up to herself and clearing misunderstandings led to Siwon being completely consumed by resentment.
The real horror story is the misunderstandings between teenage girls, the most lethal creatures on the planet. The horror element is just an artistic tool to tell a simple story, communicate with your friends and call them out for their bullshit, dont bottle up your emotions, talk it out, punch it out.
My only nitpick and actual issue is them not wrapping up the dynamic between Nari and Seah because someone at the production company wants to leave room for a season two ( Nari creates a curse, obviously...?) , shouldve wrapped it up.
You can see Wikipedia but if you want explanation of all 8 main characters with the supporting characters then…
They're in the same part of the film industry and meet the same people daily, so they know each other by name and more importantly by reputation but have never been properly acquainted until the show's events.
Would've been brilliant to just focus on a top level passionate chef and a clever manager with a deep understanding of the industry taking a small country side restaurant to the highest level organically. But the moment that head chef from Sapporo showed up disguised as a 2nd lead love interest, it went back to being a stereotypical cliché romcom with 0 substance, then the show kept getting derailed from its bread and butter with evil chairwoman and the classic misunderstanding stereotype where one lead cannot explain their POV to save their life and we wait two episodes for them to make up again. Everything was too dramatic and not "fine dining" related after episode 5. Just an aesthetic looking meal with no flavor. Quite the lazy trick they pulled with the french judge giving them a 3 star out of nowhere, where is the authenticity? the organic growth? no actual journey just random events put together in a badly paced 10 eps show
Enjoyed the show, loved the actors. But i want to rant over how vague and impossible the murders are to commit, simply unrealistic. Spoilers below . . . . . Reporter murder : Heavily drunk, unaware of surroundings. House easily barged into, poisoned, nothing to note its a crime an idiot can commit. moving on
Superintendent murder : Rich neighborhood, probably cameras everywhere, secured villa with minimal entries and locks, nothing broken on entry, howd she get in? target is a professional experienced cop who was likely aware, still failed to notice the attack? Stabbed once in the neck with a screw driver that was never removed, means the blood wont gush out and the victim has several minutes infact to perform actions, somehow died on the spot with 0 resistance? was he paralyzed before? its too vague
Woman murder : Snuk into backseat of the car, how did she unlock? choked the driver with a rope for 35 minutes while she drove? driver was aware of the culprit as she tried to get a cops attention on the rode by running a red light. If you could be saved by another's attention, why not crash the car? 35 minutes is enough regain proper thought process. Not even an idiot would drive all the way like she did.
Chairman murder : Snuk into a chairman's office on a high floor, staff didnt notice? they stay late at night as well. Hid from chair man and snuk from behind even though his chair is right infront of a wall meaning his vision would see over 90% of the room, no blind spots. Hit once with a syringe at lower cervical level, caused a glycemic related death. But glucose and insulin reactions arent immediate? how did the chairman not resist? he shouldve had enough time to freely resist. Wiped CCTV, where did she get authorization from? its not simple entering a security room for a 10k+ person occupied building and erasing cameras for a whole floor, its near impossible if youre not authorized let alone an imposter.
Boat murder : CCTV confirmed FL getting on the boat but couldn't confirm culprit doing so too? victim was aware of someone else on the boat but still failed to resist? how did she kill him immediately? all what was given is a man hung by a rope undwrwater. too many questions regarding the state of incapacitation.
Hunting murder : Isolated area, roads leading to it are little, all on camera. almost a sealed room. how did the culprit arrive and leave without being caught? move over to hospital, crowded, surveillance everywhere, cops are present with victiks arrival. Culprit dons some rags and drugs the victim to death. CCTV wiped? not caught on it? how does she enter and leave un-seen again? Task force runs a match on staff against people caught camera. find nothing. means she wasnt caught on it? or did they overlook?
Rooftop murder : Assembly man, extremely important political figure, likely highley gaurded, even tracked by gps ( its quite common for important figures to do this). Kidnapped by a girl 60-70% his size and dragged to a rooftop of a highly surveillanced luxurious building complex. Culprit seemingly drops the patient without being present because how else does she avoid everyone whos on their way up? while shes going down? seen taking a cab at floor level? how did she get there?
Well this is my thoughts stormed here, none of these assumptions are concrete and is just speculations, i merely gathered context and asked questions.
Seems to me the author wrote the killer as a super-human machine that can get into any room and kill anyone with minimal resistance faced, and leave no traces and cant be csught in a country where your hotel bathroom likely has cctv in it. In my opinion the author didn't want the hassle of making the murders realistic so they made them completely vague and up for interpretation and guessing, which is basically a " look but dont touch" mechanism, the moment you give it thought and touch it everything crumbles

I tend to figure out these riddles immediately because kdramas are rarely genius in their mysteries. But if all i cared about was the truth id go to the comment section. The actual delivery and connections are what matters. This shows actual problem isnt the easy killer riddle, its how vague the murders are, almost all the murders seem impossible to perform and the show gives 0 clues despite the entire cast being detectives. i wrote a whole comment about it on here in detail

interesting you talk about mouse, because the show gave it away in the ending of the second episode (hospital scene). I loved mouse because although the killer was so obvious from the beginning the show had fleshed out beautifully for the viewer to appreciate the journey, which is what this show lacks.
7 is not good for mdl standards. like at the end of the day it’s a high quality drama (in terms of cinematography).…
oh no i agree there, i gave the drama a 7.5 and i think its nothing special but i did enjoy many aspects in it enough for it to get a good rating. This show is actually good in my opinion. Regarding the critiques maybe they do leave out the positives which is sadly misleading for people who might enjoy the show if they just tried it

You also take into account the presentation of food, a tv show thats pleasant on the eye but is horrendous in every other department would get a 3 or a 4 bcz although presentation matters, there are other imprtant things and if you give something a 7 it means that show passes in almost every department bcz it earned 7, missed 3. those 3 cannot be so important yet take up so little space. I dont check rating before i watch anyways bcz ratings are subjective especially on sites like this...still weird
7 is not good for mdl standards. like at the end of the day it’s a high quality drama (in terms of cinematography).…
so basically MDL viewers overrate everything is what I'm seeing , a 7 is a 7 no matter what. no show or film should be rated from 5 to 10 no matter the budget they had. There are countless films and shows with way bigger budgets and can deservedly get below a 5. This show is the definition of " good" nothing more nothing less. Whoever bashed it should just give it a 5 or lower because it sounds to me that people on here have no idea how to rate. Giving something a 7 when you vocally express your distain is like tasting a burger and spitting it out then saying " yea I recommend this order its a 7/10"
You see, the thing is, in real life, and most dramas too, if people agree they aren't rich they don't all of a…
well im complaining because i too have a perspective and i dont agree with alot of the comments, simply sharing my opinion on the matter. didnt say youre not allowed to dislike her infact i said that's why her character is interesting, because her actions can divide the audience.
She isn't normally dumb, she is abnormally dumb and thats what infuriates me...like she invites all that trouble…
no way u just said "newbie" and "dramaland" LMAO sorry thats just fuckin hilarious. dont worry friend ive seen thousands of films shows and anime i know whats interesting 👍. and this one is, not by much ill admit but she is definitely entertaining.
