I don't want to make blanket statements, but I have a number of ethnic Chinese family and friends who are, to one degree or another kinda shallow like that (myself being American born Chinese). Without going into specifics, there's been many times where someone has said something that to me seemed very insensitive, but seemed perfectly normal to them.. I married a non Chinese man (Spanish, Portuguese, Filipino) and I catch snide comments from time to time; I won't even tell you what they say about my cousin who married an African American, and the comments about their kids... Could be a cultural thing. I know socio economic status is something that's strived for. Perhaps having a debilitating illness means one has inferior genes.. materialism and superficiality seems to be a norm, but that can be said of most 1st world cultures. Again, don't want to make blanket statements, and on the other side of the coin, I know many other Chinese people who are lovely and kind. I know these plot points are done in hyperbole as a story telling mechanism, but I wonder if it's a commentary of the mentality or culture..

While it's true the principal photography for VD is shorter compared to other productions, that's also a double edged sword. Actors feel the need to consistently be involved in projects to stay relevant as you said, and it gets worse as they age; it's the nature of the industry. Very unforgiving.. you can be the hottest thing one minute, and the next you're just a blip in the memories of the fans who still care.

Sometimes production is finished, but for whatever reason they're not released until much later. Like with "Twin Flames in Daybreak" I believe it has been sitting on the backburner for like a year. The principal photography may have been completed well before the actual drama is even released to the public.
