I thought he turned into a goblin because many souls were praying for him (shown in the beginning of episode 1), but since he has killed many with the sword, his punishment is immortality and to never forget the death of the people he meets. He didn't make her I guess, he just saved his mother and her... I don't think that's supposed to make her the bride, but the bride is someone who can see the sword. I could be wrong, but it's what I think so far...

I usually go by the 5 episodes rule, where I watch up to episode 5 - give it a chance before I drop/judge a drama :) maybe due to LMH and and JJH's popularity, the drama's all hyped up which gave viewers higher expectations...
