Some thoughts after getting home and also responding to what First Choice mentioned about TJCs acting. I think QHG doesnt have much emotional ups and downs in here where he can showcase the full range of his acting skills. The audience is mainly led by WZQ. I have watched many of TJCs work so in some of his scenes, it worked against me because i could see the TJC in them. What was totally new to me was his Cantonese dialogue and personally, it was a very nostalgic feeling because i grew up watching hk shows. Language changes everything. I have seen bits of the mandarin dubbed version and it didnt convey the same feelings. I think that was also one of his biggest challenge because he actually speaks a different version of it and in this movie, he had to rattle a tonne of lines at crazy speeds. I suspect he took up this role for the language challenge, the same as how he saw sign language in SOS. So if u have to choose between the Canto and Mandarin versions when the time comes, please choose the former. They released a new trailer this morning with the confrontation between QHG and WZQ, that gives a good indication of what QHG is like throughout.

No i feel TJC is more of the funny guy in the show because of the guangxi accent scenes. 😅 He doesnt even fight inside.
The violent parts all involve the gang members in HK. There are 2 major bloody scenes. The first is what ZYLs character saw and the other being actually done to him.

Haha..spoiler for the story: WZQ is basically a lunatic. He pulls off a big heist and is wanted by the HK police. QHG is tasked to arrest him in guangzhou and hand him over to the HK side. If u remember the wedding scene, thats how they met. WZQ somehow manages to get acquitted and sets his eye on CHYs money. CHY pays but later sends the triads to punish him and get back some of his money. WZQs brothers die in the process and he takes revenge by setting off explosives. QHG and his team go after WZQ but realise hes just playing with them. Of course, they manage to arrest him in the end by outsmarting him. I dont think so. When threatening WZQ, he said he made a mistake in the past but was able to correct it. He didnt dwell on it further. It explained why he was so determined to catch WZQ.

Yes, some scenes would be rated r21 in my country. I wasnt expecting it because i got so used to how bloodless c dramas are. 🤣 TJCs role is not small but maybe a third to half of ZYLs.

It was a cat and mouse game where the cat kept getting toyed. QHG didnt have much of a back story, it was covered in 1 or 2 lines. He was just very determined to catch WZQ, no matter the means , so he had to break some rules.

Haha i did leave a short review on the Kong Qiang page. TJC didnt really appear that much, compared to ZYL. It was set in 1997, HK movie in front, really good and bloody. Then it became chinese after the handover event in the story. Hahaha u know the stuff about how good the police are etc.
I just came out of the premiere/roadshow in Gz. Omg the movie was so violent and bloody, very much hk flavour of the 90s but the later parts also reminded me of cn dramas/movies. ZYL was amazing (his character looked really really really painful) and although i needed to check the subtitles for what he said sometimes, i cant believe he did the entire movie in cantonese. It didnt hinder his acting at all. There was also a lot of humour and TJC with GuangXi accented mandarin was hilarious. Overall a very good watch! The cast and director came in afterwards for short interaction with the audience. TJC looked like a doll. The photos online dont do him justice.
