1.This episode opens with YH visiting Phoenix to ask some questions about BQ's memory. Phoenix lies through his teeth about this issue of her memory and eye site. YH does not push it but seems doubtful.
2.Meanwhile, Li Jing and BQ run into one another. Li Jing passionately professes that she is his A-Yin, that he loves her and hopes to occupy some part of her heart. What follows is (in my opinion, one of the best speeches of the series): BQ cooly but proudly states she is Bai Quan of Quian and tells him she will have a talk about what happened with him because of his thoughts/feelings. She walks him through what happened, beginning with his choice of Xuan Nu. She is very direct and honest as she coldly explains that he broke her heart, that she entertained naive dreams of the two of them living together. But she also explains that it never would have worked out because of who she was (her status) and that her family never would have allowed them to be together. She explains that she truly loved him and her heart was truly broken by him. Since then she has moved on, and he should to.
3.YH gains confirmation that BQ is Su Su because when she fled the eastern sea she left her blindfold. He burns it in the lamp and it in fact proves they are the same. He and 3rd prince are now trying to figure out how Su Su passed as a mortal, with no memories.
4.Meanwhile, BQ visits her brother, FJ's aunt, to deliver some wine not expecting he is home. She is essentially forced to stay and talk, and learns that her brother is well aware that his daughter has been causing headaches in her pursuit of DH. BQ covers up for FJ and explains that she will keep her at her home and take care of her (in truth she has not exactly been keeping a close eye on her; probably because no matter how bad FJ is BQ was a million times worse in her youth). BQ sneaks away when she has the chance.
5.BQ comes home and complains about YH and after that only asks where FJ is (interestingly, she affectionately calls her Xiou Jiu, a name that DH came up with and uses in pillow book)
6.Change the scene to FJ, who has a chance to be seen by the emperor--his palanquin is on its way by and a guard whispers to the emperor (who did not ask for this info) that the woman is Lady Chen who almost died. DH calls her pitiful, and OUT OF PITY says she will be the one he will sleep with tonight (I am sorry but FJ was born under an unlucky star. Even in the mortal realm it is PITY that moves DH. Poor girl).
7.She has the normal reservations of someone who has never been to bed with someone (Side Note: in the novel, while this is the same in terms of reservations, her character talks about how the fox tribe sort of thought she was odd for trying to keep herself pure for DH since they are more simple, and passionate, than the rigid celestial court. essentially i took this to mean that no one would have judged her if she had taken a lover)
8.Unfortunately, the royal consort yet again intervenes. she has a priest arrive and insist that the mark on FJ is a sign of evil. The emperor is rather annoyed with this and does nothing to punish FJ, as his consort insists, but does say he will not see her tonight (things like this truly illustrate that thing called fate, and how it is constantly working against these two...)
9.FJ decides to visit DH the mortal in his dream and learn what his deepest desire is. Because he was never successful in love (the woman, and mother of the crown prince sort of abandoned him to become a nun) he seeks someone who loves him and only him, a devoted true-love. (Side note: i thought you couldn't use magic in this world? how can she do this?). Ironically, this wish has in a way already come true because FJ already loves him 100% even though he has rejected her time and again. I think this is an expression of Dijun's trues desire, even as a god, and his biggest secret.
10.Back to BQ (I know a lot of people think these scenes are cute and nice but they are a little too cutesy for me) who is with A Li. She's had him for a while and hasn't notified YH. Anyways YH is a bit high handed and gets annoyed when she gratifies A-Li's wishes (she doesn't seem to mind, also, that he calls her mother) while he is more responsible, being the parent, and lectures her on proper eating habits.
11. The episode ends on a cliff hanger, with Mi Gu crying out in shock while YH, A-Li, and BQ turn to see what is going on,
I liked this episode because of FJ. But I am biased. So please take that under consideration. I didn't give it a 10 because some elements were a bit too cutesy, others seemed like plot holes (maybe I am confused here).

1.YH takes some time to visit the 10 mile peach blossoms. Here he catches a drunk BQ who falls out of a tree. It is a well filmed scene. But Su Su disappears, and YH is convinced he only saw what he wanted to see and that it didn't happen.
2.BQ arrives at the eastern sea, and naturally, she does not tell anyone her identity because that would make sense.
3.Li Jing arrives at the Eastern Sea and is treated rudely by 18th, who happens to live there, but the king intervenes on his behalf.
4.BQ encounters A-Li (they call him rice ball but in the novel it is little dough/the dough). She gives A Li the fan to play with (the cloud fan) and it causes the seaweed to come off the lights. It is so bright her invisible blindfold appears just as YH (who is looking for his son) walks by. He thinks it's Su Su.
5.YH steps out of the scene and snake lady shows up (I always forget her name) and begs for forgiveness. BQ offers to grant her a wish, which will effectively end their relationship when granted, and explains why she cannot forgive her in spite of her not being able to control who she fell in love with.
6.YH returns and since he knows her identity (eavesdropping) he can't wait to remind her of their engagement. BQ, in contrast, finds reasons to put barriers up by citing things such as their age as an issue. She seems to have no knowledge of YH despite A-Li's insistence that she is his mother. Then the sea king arrives, and she lies to him and says she is a servant of BQ sent to give a gift (she is doing this to escape having to appear publicly with YH).
7.YH's inner monologue reflects on his confusion, his belief that BQ and Su Su are the same, and wondering if she really forgot, if she is pretending to forget
8.The princess performs her dance to seduce YH (fails) and then later she tries to speak to YH and treats BQ rudely, who in turn reveals her identity. Just prior to this scene, an angry A-Li explains the entire Su Su story in a nut shell and accuses her of not really loving his father. To get the child to stop crying she says that YH is her only love, her honey (this is more fitting with A-Li's character in the novel). BQ later then tries to push the sea princess on YH, but A-Li conveniently shares the sweet love words that BQ told him--and YH is clearly happy with this.
9.An uncomfortable BQ escapes.
-I like this episode because it continues the love story and it also illustrates that BQ, who always seems so cool and unreachable, can be ruffled by somebody else. She is clearly aware of YH and he unsettles her and instead of confronting the issue head on, like she normally would, she takes every opportunity to avoid him and escape.
-I am not a fan of the more contrived things. I understand that the subplot of the sea princess is supposed to be used as an opportunity to bring them together but there are SO MANY women in the series with this kind of petty personality. Naturally when someone like FJ or BQ comes along you are going to like them because the alternatives are so annoying. The same goes for the men. Most of the male deities in the show look like grandpas or are spineless. So it makes us like DH or YH even more. While this show tries to have more depth than other romances it is still something that annoys me.

1.The sea princess exacts a favor from YH: she would like to take care of him and A-Li for the time they are at the cabin. (May I again say that I really don't like child actors? A-Li is a zillion times better in the novel because he causes a lot of mischief without realizing it). YH agrees.
2.Next scene, FJ explains to her Aunt that she returned the lamp (now BQ is wearing cool blue, I think reflective of her personality which is supposed to be composed, smart, and understanding, while FJ wears bright red, because she is so bold and passionate).
3.The scene changes to the celestial court where we learn that BQ is making a rare appearance and visiting a sea king because a midwife there helped her mother birth her. Since her appearances are nonexistent, they are taking care to cover up lights out of respect to her sensitive eyes. Chung Ye is there and in her typical fashion continues to feel a strong affinity with BQ who the gossips say has had struggled with love (just like Chung Ye. i am extremely interested in her back story with 3rd prince).
4.Change scene to YH and A Li who plan to go to the eastern sea. Here he will presumably run into BQ, unleashing a torrent of new conflicts.
5.Back to FJ who is visited by Si Ming. He can hardly contain his excitement as he tells her she can pay her debt if she can come with him, but it will take two months (the equivalent of a lifetime in the mortal realm). Although she has been forbidden by her father to leave, when has that ever stopped her? FJ plans to sneak out while Mi Gu must struggle with the guilt of covering for her//it seems he will lie by omission he is so loyal)
6.Now we change scenes entirely. This is the mortal realm, and of course DH was born as an emperor (this would be consistent with the Chinese belief at that time that emperors had the favor of gods/ were even earth bound deities). I am not incredibly fond of his mortal look because of the beard but he still manages to be attractive (probably because I know what he really looks like//this is very shallow of me but at the same time difficult to ignore since in these dramas actors are required to be good looking, unlike in america)
7.FJ learns from Si Ming that he is here to undergo trials. Si Ming says it was his idea that this could be how she repays his kindness. (Perhaps DH's reason is something shared in confidence, and the reason why Si Ming circulates the 'cover up' explanation of being there to undergo trials. recall DH said he wanted to give FJ what she wanted i.e. himself and he could do this as a mortal)
8.FJ learns that Si Ming needs her assistance in the love trial that DH must undergo. A concubine of DH's is soon to catch a cold and die. DH it seems slept with her twice and has forgotten about her. FJ will assume her identity after she falls into a pond. her name will be Lu Chen.
9.FJ refuses to hide her flower (forehead) because her aunt said it was a good sign; Si Ming warns her that it may not be taken that way in the mortal realm. He is right. Just when her name comes up on the roster for the emperor (it seems that names get circulated on this list, and when your name is next the emperor spends the night with you. what a system. imagine if that was reversed for us ladies?) she runs into a royal consort (basically a woman with a higher rank than her in the harem) who seems to have it out for her. She refuses to let her see him because of her 'evil' flower mark.
10.FJ again tries to disguise herself as a maid (I don't know why she thought this would work. she also looks even younger because of her hair style) and fails. She also attracts the attention of the royal consort. I cannot emphasize enough that FJ was just born under an unlucky star.
11.Meanwhile, the disgraced 2nd prince visits phoenix for some peaches. It seems he and his wife, the snake girl, can't keep there hands off of one another and since this is her 5th child, they want some peaches to prevent pregnancy. I wish birth control tasted so good! Phoenix agrees. I think this was included because 2nd prince did what he wanted, and is blissfully happy, while everyone else is...miserable. Damn the rules.
12.BQ discusses with phoenix the strangeness of marrying YH, who is younger than her, and how awkward it will be.
13.YH arrives at the eastern sea, and the sea princess who earlier rescued A-Li conveniently lives here. She and her father (or is it brother?) conceive of a plan to try to seduce YH, whom she has developed feelings for (I don't get it. I don't think YH is that good looking, other than his hair. Am I alone in this?)
END EPISODE
I gave this episode an 8.5 because I really like the interactions between FJ and her Aunt, and because FJ is finally going to have an opportunity to address her feelings with DH (even if he is mortal). I found the scenes with YH to drag a lot.

1. We open up to two births. At the same time Xuan Nu gives birth to a stillborn (and insists that her medicine man use forbidden magic to save it; that it is only asleep) Su Su gives birth to a prince. Li Jing discovers this and Xuan Nu has the power man executed (poor guy/ Li Jing is kind of numb and walks off in a daze). He has a flashback to a conversation with Si Yin. Apparently he believes this is related to him and his wife committing a sin. SO karma.
2.After her labor Su Su shows no interest in the child and continues to be weak and depressed. I think she has already decided her plan of action (I don't want to spoil anything). I also think her heart is completely broken.
3.Meanwhile, Su Jin throws a tantrum in her rooms, convinced that Su Su has the best luck and expresses anger and despair because now that Su Su has birthed a prince, her position is likely to be cemented.
3.YH continues to give Su Su gifts, but she isn't buying his sweet act. She thinks he loves Su Jin and is doing this out of obligation. She begins to memorize the path to the terrace. I think we all know what she is planning. (Side Note: this plot device, of believing the male lead is in love with another, is very prominent in the sequel, pillow book).
4.FJ spies on a conversation that DH is having with the phoenix. She overhears that not only does he not require her to pay a debt but that she has been an inconvenience (ouch). Feeling dejected, she leaves and runs into YH's cousin (the girl also in love with DH) For reasons that make ZERO SENSE this girl chooses to throw her into the pagoda??!! This is one of those WTF moments, the last being, when the celestial emperor found Su Su. Again, WTF? This literally makes no sense. WHY WOULD SHE DO THIS???
5. The scene switches to YH who sees Su Su speaking to the Phoenix god. In typical YH fashion he makes a blunder and asks if she is causing trouble (yet again reaffirming her beliefs that she is a burden). He apologizes on her behalf in spite of the god saying she has caused no trouble. Then he escorts her back to her rooms and she acts a little afraid of him (who wouldn't be?) he tries to comfort her with good news: they will be married soon. she seems to not be excited but says that is nice in a very listless way. And yet again we see another case of YH focusing on his own goals and overwriting/dismissing her feelings (probably thinking that he can make it all better with a ring).
6.DH appears in red flames to rescue FJ. (This is my favorite part in the entire series, seeing Dijun get this angry). He has a fight with the guardian of the pagoda, a horribly rendered CGI monster who is described as 'the terror of the heavens'. My one complaint is that they make him seem weaker than he actually is, both in the series and compared to the novels. FJ tries to help but is knocked unconscious. DH has a strangely excited expression on his face as he takes out this creature (he is supposed to be sadistic in the novel, so maybe he was trying to project that?) I guess he hasn't fought for a while?
7.In the next scene FJ is sleeping in Dijun's private chambers, and he is watching her intently from behind a screen. I call this his 'aha moment' because this is when I think he realizes he is in love with her and thus this changes their relationship. Given who he is, and what he eventually reveals, I am not surprised he sends her away under the excuse 'you have caused too much damage'. He is sending her away I think because he likes her.
8.FJ leaves, returns home all upset, and to distract herself from her depression, she goes to confront the snake who married 2nd prince, causing her aunt to lose face. FJ, having a softer heart than BQ, agrees to accept the cloud fan when offered as an apology (recall BQ gifted this to the snake girl) and admits that she she should be mad at her but seems to accept the apology. She does state that she can't accept an apology for her aunt i.e.speak for her but acknowledges that she earned her respect because she never revealed any of the fox clans secrets.
9.FJ returns home and her father is there to yell at her. Presumably because she ran away without telling anyone for many years and because she snuck in to help DH. END EPISODE.

1.We open to YH and 3rd prince speaking. YH is submerged in a pool in order to recover from his injury from the battle with the mermaid clan. 3rd prince summarizes what we know -YH has been avoiding his Su Su to protect her. The emperor appears on the stairs, and it is unclear if he has heard this talk about Su Su. YH probably senses him and changes the topic to discuss the ghost tribe.
2.Meanwhile, Su Jin and Su Su run into the demoted 2nd prince and his pregnant wife (the snake spirit). His wife stares at Su Su intently (undoubtedly because she looks like BQ). Meanwhile Nia Nia (maid; apologies I think I spelled this wrong) who is unclear of the rules obeys a message from Su Jin's servant, to bring the fan to Su Su to the Lotus pond (where the assembly is to be held). She obeys.
3.Su Su overhears the emperor lecture YH to essentially not allow any weakness in. Su Su then runs into the emperor. Su Jin makes up an excuse as to why they are there but it doesn't seem to earn her any points with the emperor. Su jin continues to maintain that she is safe. YH emerges and coldly tells Su Su to return and gives Su Jin a thinly veiled warning to stay away. Given what Li Jing has told Su Su, it seems to confirm her words that YH is angry with her. YH quietly warns Su Su to stay away from her, but with no explanation and her already feeling depressed, I doubt that will work out.
4.Change scene to FJ who plans to sneak into the assembly by pretending to be Si Ming's maid. He is shocked by her shamelessness and insists she wouldn't dare but FJ insists she will be his maid ( I adore her and her relationship with Si Ming is like that of best friends). Meanwhile 2nd prince and his wife greet the emperor who lectures him for giving up a good future to be with a woman. They implore him to forgive them.
5.A bunch of ancient looking deities are gathered at the lotus pond (how come only some deities age well and others don't? DH is probably the oldest god and he looks young) The servant girl arrives with the fan, and seeing Su Su runs towards her. Someone uses magic to make her trip (gee, I wonder who?), and the purity fan reacts, startling the phoenix that came with the Lord of Numinous Treasures.
6.Every one scatters, and unfortunately FJ is attacked after failing to dodge the bird and coughs up blood. It tries to kill her. She faints. Si Ming tries to help her. Li Jing tries to fight it off and claims it is untamed. It is YH who ultimately delivers the killing blow after some fancy sword work. He then takes custody of the fan.
7.FJ is very injured (this girl has bad luck. just read the sequel and you will see a total confirmation of this) and is carried back, unconscious to the maid chambers. DH arrives with YH's cousin and appears to be extremely pissed (Si Ming was supposed to keep an eye on her). Si Ming explains what happened. DH orders everyone out, including the medicine man, and personally sees to her injuries (!) (I cannot emphasize enough how big this is because DJ really doesn't bother with anyone or anything. Indifference is an understatement. He didn't even partake in the battle 70000 years ago b/c he couldn't be bothered)
8.Su Su is being interrogated (poor Su Su!) She explains that the fan was supposed to be a fake. The emperor is relentless--ignorance does not excuse you, he says. The maid insists she was told to bring the fan. Su Su believes she was framed. YH tells her to shut up (basically) and bows his head asking for forgiveness. (I imagine that for Su Su, unfamiliar with these politics, is utterly baffled by these games. She continues to defend herself only to be yelled at by YH again and again. Su Su doesn't understand how far these people will go to kill her/She's also never really been treated this way by YH). Si Jin uses this as an opportunity to make herself look good by standing up for Su Su but YH insists Su Su will take her own punishment (yeouch)
9.The Lord of Numinous Treasures bursts in and learns what startled the phoenix. He says that the phoenix basically suffers from PtSD after Su Yin used the Jade Purity Fan on him 70000 years ago. Nevertheless, the bird was untamed. The Lord of Numinous Treasures takes responsibility for bringing an untamed bird to the gathering. Even though the incident is let go, YH uses it to issue an order designed to protect Su Su--she is not allowed to leave her palace without his permission, but for someone as lonely and depressed as Su Su she probably views it as yet another confirmation that YH doesn't not hold her dearly (it seems like a punishment) Worse, it is extremely humiliating to be punished like that in front of so many people, especially when she knows she is innocent. Poor Su Su.
10.The Lord of Numinous treasures cautions YH to send Su Su away before she is killed by his family. Meanwhile the celestial lord has a private audience with Si Jin in order to understand why she stood up for the mortal. She essential reveals that she wants the mortal dead due to concern for YH (uh-huh) She will help the celestial lord kill Su Su if he will grant her wish to become YH's side consort. (Talk about ambitious!). The celestial lord respects her ruthlessness and believes that she is the kind of person needed by YH's side. Su Su's days are now numbered.
11.DH uses his own cultivation on FJ (this is probably unusual for him). She weakly asks how her debt would be paid. DH studies her intently. (I can just see the wheels of passion turning in his cold eyes and instead of moving forward I bet it is going in reverse)
12.The scene changes and Nai Nai is begging for forgiveness. Su Su apologizes for getting her involved in this nonsense. She also reveals her insecurity as she asks about the relationship between YH and Si Jin. She learns that they grew up together. YH later visits Su Su but she pretends to be asleep, and the gap between them continues to widen (I think YH should have taken more care with her instead of keeping her at his side and not telling her what his plans were he just expected her to blindly trust him?? come on!)
13. FJ awakens and feels guilt at causing more problems for Dijun (nevermind he chose to personally heal her). She is so weak she turns into her fox form. Dijun finds her collapsed and picks her up and carries her into his palace. His expression seems concerned.
14.The scene changes to Su Su, who finally awakens and explains to him that she has mood swings because of pregnancy and apologizes (I view this as a cry for help. Also shows she is guilty of not communicating with him but since he is thousands of years older than her, I blame him) He in turn explains that they can't be as carefree now that they are in the palace. She frees him of all blame (????) and cuddles up next to him. She makes her wish clear: she wants to go back to the way they lived on the mountain. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly clear that it is unlikely to happen. She seems so forlorn! . YH leaves her again.
15.DH continues to use his cultivation to heal FJ, who is still in her fox form. Si Ming asks if she has returned and it appears she has not and is going to be staying with Dijun now (so different from the novels!)
16.MEANWHILE Li Jing, ghost prince, learns that his older brother has succeeded in instigating a rebellion. Now he has to go take care of this. Xuan Nu picks the wrong time to throw a tantrum. In her defense...she didn't know about the rebellion. (on dramafever there is a weird 1 second cut scene that clearly did not belong here)
17.FJ meanwhile is doing great. She chooses to take full advantage of this situation and pretend she is ill to remain close to DH (can't say I wouldn't do the same). He isn't stupid. But this is an opportunity to indulge her and himself without having to answer any tough questions (basically I think they can satisfy their desires without having to confront them//physical contact without any shame). He discusses matters with Si Ming all the while petting FJ.
18.MEANWHILE we learn that the scarlet flame lion that YH supposedly killed is alive and helping the rebels O_o
I really enjoyed this episode. Every element and subplot was enough to keep me glued to the screen--Su Su's trials as well as DH actually nursing FJ all were great, and now we have a rebellion from the elder brother of the ghost tribe who has been 'missing'. What will happen next?
Was this review helpful to you?
1. YH's plan (unsurprisingly) collapses and fails miserably. The mermaid king uses a powerful attack to inflict a deadly wound on his person. The understanding is that few could have survived such a direct attack.
2.Unfortunately, BQ uses this as a chance to communicated with YH. She sees everything happening to him and panics. YH drops the mirror, Su Jin picks it up. In a move that makes ZERO SENSE, the celestial king just happened to be passing by the mountains, in the rain, and noticed BQ who ran outside of the protective barrier as she was worried and wanted to help YH. This is one of the most nonsensical parts of the story. There seems to be no valid reason that the celestial emperor would be in that area.
3.The emperor is livid. He finds this mortal detestable for daring to mention the name of his son. He is also probably worried that his grandson, his last hope for an heir, is going to be snatched by a woman like second prince. Unsurprisingly, he does exactly what 3rd prince said he would--hurt her. The emperor orders her to be sealed in the pagoda of evil things. But YH's mother stands up for her because she is pregnant with her grandchild.
--let's take a moment to acknowledge First prince, who seems to never say anything at all during the series finally says a few words, begging for Su Su's life as she is pregnant--
4.How ironic, like a Greek Tragedy: they want YH to marry BQ, yet BQ is Su Su. Talk about a fatal mistake. If only they knew what she looked liked! (and that might not even help since she is mortal in their eyes). An extremely frantic, very pregnant and scared Su Su (I feel so bad for her) is locked up in a dusty palace and ignored. Stress is not good for a pregnant lady. Apparently neither is being married to the crown prince. YH should have better prepared her instead of lying.
5.We are given a rare glimpse of YH, naked from the waist up, pretty hair down--this is both a fanservice and also something unlikely to be censored since it is to bandage in injury. But then how and why they censor things seems to be deeply inconsistent and sometimes almost based purely on whim. YH is (naturally) upset that his (extremely naive and poorly constructed plan) fell through. But it was a fun plot device so I give it a thumbs up. One of the great things about this drama is the use of soooo many plot devices.
6.The celestial emperor punishes a messenger for allowing YH to be in danger. We learn that because the Lord of Numionous (or Luminous; I may have misunderstood) Treasures is arriving and this will delay the emperor from seeing YH
7. Xuan Nu (my fave antagonist) is addressing ghost soldiers who are showing unrest at Li Jing's inaction towards the celestial tribe and poor treatment of his eldest brother. She defends Li Jing (I wish he knew that for all the bad things she does, she does a lot of things to help him time and time again; I strongly thing his treatment of her has a profound impact on her character becoming more twisted//on the flip side you can argue that he shouldn't be responsible for an adult woman's actions).
8.Husband and wife are now together. Li Jing doesn't seem to hold a grudge against Xuan Nu because they are husband and wife and will not punish her for giving away the military seal (I suppose that is the best he can do). We learn that Xuan Nu is pregnant from that time they slept together when she used BQ's face. Li Jing actually seems happy and stunned at the news. This child will be the source of another subplot--one that is both sad and bittersweet. Xuan Nu is really grasping at straws as this child is now something she hopes to use to gain maybe a tiny foothold in her husband's heart; currently his kindness towards her (if any) is out of duty and obligation, nothing more.
9.YH is at death's door and continues to cough up blood. Si Jin enters the sick room unannounced and third prince gives her a sound scolding before sending her off. Meanwhile BQ is sitting alone, in a dank and dusty palace, wondering if YH is alive or dead. The servants are forbidden to talk to her and aren't exactly nice, pushing her away (she's pregnant!) But they will also get in trouble if they talk to her.
10. Probably the worse thing that could have happened happens: Si Jing gets a hold of the two-way mirror and sees a worried Su Su calling his name. This is bound to cause problems.
11. Change scene: We go to FJ who is not only shocked that her aunt has been yet again made a fool of (YH and the mortal) but she brushes off Si Ming's defense of YH through the explanation of a harem he will likely take because the fox tribe is more romantic and don't have harems. She disguises herself as a fox and tries to talk to the mortal woman but the mortal is only concerned about YH. FJ learns as servants feed Su Su some new gossip about YH (nothing new for us). FJ feels pity for the mortal and guilt for not being angry on her aunt's behalf.
12.Change Scene: Xuan Nu is taking pre-natal meds while Li Jing updates her on the situation with the mermaid tribe. He explains that he will have to go to the Lord of Numinous treasures assembly to apologize. Xuan Nu is thinking only about herself: she states these have been the happiest three days in 70000 years since marrying him. (I find this to be so sad, because this is a very true statement). Li Jing encourages her to watch her health while the medicine man hints that her pregnancy may be difficult.
13.Back to BQ/Su Su, who refuses to eat. Side thought: This is soulmates, because a soul mate would only care for their only half. She is neglecting her body, her health, because all she cares about is YH. I find this kind of love the most intense kind but, as you can see, a bit self-destructive and scary.
14.Li Jing arrives with his wife, medicine man, and his mount (can i say that their costumes are so pretty and unique given that they are the only ones who wear dark colors? YH doesn't count as his outfit is so boring). Xuan Nu pretends to be strong but once Li Jing leaves she looks really pained. It seems the child's life is in danger. the medicine man says it could be because she is not from the ghost realm, but he cannot feel its heartbeat (!). He wants her to think of her own health and basically allow him to induce a miscarriage but Xuan Nu is adamant, this baby has to live because (sadly) it is the only thing keeping her in Li Jing's thoughts (this may be karma i.e. Xuan Nu's actions in the past are now being punished in that she can't have this child, which she wants the most).
15. Li Jing's mount (the kid with red hair and pointed ears) wanders off and discovers where Su Su is. He recognizes the peach blossom scent (recall he met Su Yin/A-Yin). Meanwhile, Li Jing runs into the Lord of Numinous Treasures (hate the facial hair) at the lotus pond. A fire takes them to where Su Su is. And it isn't any normal fire, it is hell fire (the worse kind). Li Jing immediately sees his contrite mount and takes full responsibility. He puts the flames out and stumbles across the mortal Su Su and immediately thinks what most people who know BQ or Si Yin think 'I know this girl!' He takes them to his own room and Xuan Nu is shocked, immediately claiming that it isn't Su Yin. Li Jing ignores her and summons a shaman.
16.She is injured by crimson fire. Crimson fire scarring can't be healed. Xuan Nu feels relieved to learn she is mortal. Li Jing is disappointed she is mortal. Note: this injury will be important later on in the story. Side Note: Xuan Nu's satisfied /evil expressions are so great!
17. His mount apologizes and explains that he was trying to help her; that the fragrance she emitted was familiar. After lecturing the kid Su Su awakens muttering YH's name. Li Jing introduces himself and they learn that she thinks that the celestial court may be trying to kill her (a very valid conclusion). She is surprised at the kids age. I don't understand age. The kid is 70,300 years old but looks like he is 12. FJ is 30,000 years old but is like a 17-year old. Anyways, YH's mom shows up to collect her.
18.I fail to understand how Su Su violated heaven's law. I guess they don't differentiate between 'knowingly' and 'unknowingly'. At the end of the day, people with the most power can do what they want...
19. Li Jing makes it clear he is uninterested in pursuing the matter with the mortal because he came to apologize. END EPISODE.
One of the criticisms I have of this drama is the fact that the drama does not develop the other tribes nearly as well as the celestial court. Part of this is likely related to the fact that this is, at the end of the day, a love story. Great attention is paid to the celestial court but the other tribes (I think) are reduced to being so much weaker than the Celestial Tribe that they should request their assistance/need it or so evil that they should be eliminated. I would have liked to see a bit more depth. But then again, this is a love story and they do have a time crunch. I'm only listing these things as I notice them.
Either way, this episode captivated me. I give it a solid 9 for good pacing and interesting developments, and planting seeds for future plots. I did not give it a 10 because of some of the inconsistencies and less than interesting scenes (but I guess necessary) scenes with YH. I don't know why but his character only ever seems interesting when he is angry. His attempts to act with his eyes falls a little flat but he succeeds with rigid bod language to communicate emotion.
2.Unfortunately, BQ uses this as a chance to communicated with YH. She sees everything happening to him and panics. YH drops the mirror, Su Jin picks it up.

1.I thing they try a little too hard with the soldier scene. They are clearly trying to make YH/celestial tribe the saviors because the current emperor is unable to address the issue with the mermaid king. However, from the mermaid king's perspective, he's been by himself trying to deal with the mermaid clan. The celestial court is far away, they deal with other matters. I think he has been trying to avoid blood shed because they can't handle it militarily, and even if the celestial court helped, whose to say that his entire clan wouldn't be wiped out? that's all nice and romantic but you don't want to be responsible for the genocide of your clan.
2.We learn Su Su is pregnant! (why else should she be throwing up) Another secret on the long list of secrets they have been keeping. YH's life just got a little more complicated but at this point whose keeping count? His pregnant mortal wife, disguised as a boy, on the eve of battle? Now he has to send her away.
3.Li Yuan and his sister are given an audience with the mermaid king (love the make up; the king kind of looks like the guy in the bell) and are thoroughly humiliated. He essentially says that he isn't going to help a weakling and Li yuan leaves in a huff. Then he sends his son in his place to the meeting with the sea king.
4.The son turns out to be not only rude and disrespectful, but a bit of a lecher. The sea king is so desperate to please the mermaid clan that he is even welling to sell his daughter to them (poor girl), Ye Hua uses this as an opportunity to trigger war. He puts enough pressure on the sea king so that he must execute the son for his actions. He does so and sends his heads back to his father (this is the mermaid kings fave kid btw. harsh). The mermaid clan strikes me as a very proud, warrior kind of clan however their disregard for weakness (essentially weak people are nothing) has led to them consistently disregard the sea king. In addition to this, they are marginalized with little power these days. But they are powerful in terms of skill. A dangerous enemy. They are the kinds of people who fight to the last man, so it isn't shocking if Ye Hua plans to wipe them out (still harsh)
5.After getting his sons head back the mermaid king swears he will not stand under the same sky as YH. Just as he wanted, war is on. YH takes Su Su home after she does his hair. They spend some time together before he returns (he also casts the protective barrier around her home)
6.YH reports to the emperor the status of his mission. 3rd prince again asks if he is ready to give up throne and family and YH is firm. YH (wrongly) assumes that he can use this war to repay the emperor. The emperor from what I know is not the type to let matters rest. He's still looking for Mo Yuan who is dead. why wouldn't he be looking and confirming himself YH is dead? This plan is pretty bad in my eyes. But makes for fun story telling. It's the kind of thing that only comes up in a drama.
-on a side note, I noticed that in dramas for female villains they tend to give them 'sharp angles' Xuan Nu has a sharp face (angular) and Si Jun's outfit has pointy shoulders. It is as if they are removing softness from them. I bet this is deliberate. There's no way they don't try to implicate them visually to the viewer. Bc this show is to carefully planned out. I wonder how often they reshoot things?
7.YH visits his mom (in his eyes this is the last time he is seeing her, in his mind). It is a sentimental conversation.
8.Si Jun shows up--in armor--to fight. This is strange. Because she has zero military experience. She is lectured by 3rd prince who makes it clear that she is embarrassing them by putting on a show. He is also reminds her that she can't be with him and urges her to abandon her feelings. She is presumptuous and tells him who knows what could happen (I kind of like that about her). Of course she pales to FJ's shamelessness (hence why she is my fave) Si Jin is much more like a snake
The episode end with YH once again stating he is ready to finish this battle and be with his Su Su. I gave this episode a 7.5 but it felt arbitrary. it could be an 8. To be honest this episode didn't interest me as much but i remember when I first watched it I was glued to the t.v. But round two it was less interesting.

This episode dragged a bit. Essentially we see:
1.Su Su journeys with YH to the immortal realm disguised as a boy. They run into 18th by the sea, and he thinks he is looking at Su Yin until Ye Hua (who is disguised as Hua Ye...great name) explains that the guy is a 'she' and a mortal, his wife. he asks that 18th keep this a secret and he agrees
2.The sea princess takes a liking for 'Hua Ye'
3.YH and Su Su go to the peach blossoms and YH hints that he will never see his family again but doesn't explain why. He is going to lay the foundation for his 'death'. YH is basically working to force the sea king to declare war himself.
4.FJ visits DH and destroys his game of go by slamming a bucket of nuts down (she really doesn't pay attention) but DH's face--like he has come to expect this--is priceless
Not a lot happened in this episode. It fell more like filler. Also, the tents of the soldiers look like pencils.

1.YH continues to take human form and cuddle BQ at night. He reasons that since he has been sharing the bed of an unmarried woman he would be bad not to marry her.
2. The golden lion meets the ghost princess who is shocked to see him. She learns from him that Li Jing lied to her and her older brother, whom she has been looking for, was imprisoned by Li Jing after the war.
3.The daoist again tries to cause trouble for BQ. He accuses her of being a witch, and the towns people begin to throw stuff at her (Bad for the daoist, because this YH's beloved BQ)
4. The Daoist uses magic to bind BQ and burn the snake. BQ tries to protect the snake with her body. The ghost princess wants to intervene but the golden lion stops her. The snake turns into the black dragon and everyone falls to their knees to worship. BQ is unafraid. Ye Hua vomits water on him surrounding BQ. YH is surprised she is not afraid. YH flies away because now the palace will def. be aware he showed his true form. BQ leaves and ignores the towns people who try to apologize by giving her free things.
--I guess this shows how selfless she is, by not taking anything? I would totally be taking free stuff! You don't know if something bad might happen, she should be taking these resources in case something like a famine hits!--
5.BQ expects to never see the dragon again. YH arrives and sees Si Ming to ask a favor (I believe involving the daoist)
6.Si Jun enters YH's room and grabs his arm. She essentially begs him to sleep with her (i.e. grant me my one wish) even though she is his father's consort) (even though she becomes quite awful later I kind of respect her shamelessness all is fair in love and war). Si Jun is rejected again, and laments quite dramatically what is she to do.
7. YH speaks to third prince (I believe he is lord Liansong in the novel) and discusses how to gain her love. Third prince reiterates how can you love a mortal with all those women out there (this is total fanservice) comes up with several ideas: women love a hero (so true). He tells her to walk up to her and smile and she will melt. But using his charms is beneath him, so he suggests releasing a monster to save her and rescue her (twisted) and he accuses him of using this trick to get Lady Cheng Yu, but third prince insists that they ended. YH admits she knows his true form and that she is extraordinary. Finally, third prince suggests that he use the pity game (bwahahaha--this also works on people but you have to be careful you don't wind up in the friend zone)
8. Si Ming meanwhile is visiting the poor daoist who had the misfortune of offending YH. Here we learn that he has done many bad deeds and is destined to die this year. Si Ming has to write a worse fate to punish him.
9.YH hamelessly pretends to be injured to gain BQ's trust. She is clearly upset that he is injured and cleans his wound (I detect guilt in YH). After changing the water his wound is magically healed (he is immortal). YH feigns shock and makes up some silly story that she must have used some herbs (she admits she randomly picked them) that were magical. YH admits he got the injury from fighting a magical monster but she claims to have seen no monsters. He pretends to be more ill to avoid answering farther.
10.After learning that she woke up with no memory, no name, YH gives her the name Su Su (and here begins the life of Su Su, which will lead to big misunderstandings later in the series), He tells her his real name. He draws her name on his hand (so romantic!) which flusters her and she makes up an excuse to leave.
11. YH brings a sleeping SuSu to bed (she gave him the bed bc he was ill) and then crawls in with her.
12. Su Su tried to make chicken and nearly burns the house down. YH wonders how she survived, and apparently she ate not very well bc she is not a picky eater. She also says she took care of a snake and it was hard to take care of (bwahahaha). Su Su is a bit lacking in the smarts but nothing seems to startle her. She goes with the flow, it seems. YH seems to find this adorable (as do i).
13.YH comes looking for Su Su who is lost. She admits it took her 8 days (!) to find her way out of the forest. YH kindly tells her that he is tolerant of essentially dumb people. Here we learn that immortals cannot stay in the mortal realm for long without impacting fates (Su Su still does not know his identity). We also learn that the golden learn entered the mortal realm, caused drought, poverty, took a liking to the emperor's wife, raped her, and caused just a ton of problems before being subdued by the black dragon.

I can't believe that there are just two left!! It feels surreal!
1. Ever faithful, Migu defends BQ's actions. BQ acknowledges their requests but explains that as Susu she was his wife, and requests that she be allowed to clean his body and dress him (on her knees she bows and begs). She insists that it is only proper that she do this, as his wife. DH grants this request.
2.3rd prince asks YH's mother to not hold a grudge. But she has a point, he died twice for the same woman. She should be allowed to be heartbroken. He asks that since she is handing the body over to be patient.
3. FJ serves tea and explains she probably won't be queen anymore before giving Dh tea in a rather charged scene.
--Again, I think that DH will put distance between himself and FJ again. He removed his name from the rock to be the best god, basically, and his fear that she would die interfered in his ability to defend the tribe (even if she was trying to protect him). I bet he is going to continue avoiding her because his little indulgences seem to reaffirm his belief that nothing good can come from loving her. I don't think he will stop loving her...but it doesn't look good for team FJ
4.We see an extremely poignant and emotionally charged scene as BQ speaks to the dead YH, talking to him about things she never told him when he was alive. She explains that now she understands the heavy burden he basically has crown prince but talks about how nice it would be if he were normal. She explains that she was inadequate, not good enough, but as queen it's funny how useless she is. She promises to never forget him and shares a secret: that when he stood outside her fox den for seven days she had already forgiven him but because of her stubbornness and desire to appear strong, she couldn't tell him. She acknowledges how difficult his life has been and then kisses him. (SO SAD! the only person who i can think of who has suffered more than the people in this show is Bones from Journey of Flower)
5. YH is in his coffin while surrounded by his family. Members of the celestial tribe and fox tribe are there. She asks permission to go to the sea of innocence but is denied access because she is not a member of the celestial tribe (ouch!). FJ stands up for her aunt and their love (ever loyal) but BQ understands (I say f**** their rules at this point but they are sticklers for the rules). Everyone disappears, and BQ runs outside, having not accepted that he has gone. She collapses. FJ leaves temporarily I assume to help her.
(I have a bad feeling about FJ trying to help her aunt...my gut tells me she will do something really dumb or really selfless, neither will be good)
6. Members of the celestial tribe have returned. Following not far behind is FJ. She is not allowed to enter. DH turns around and stops in front of FJ (the distance between them seems really big right now)
7.FJ asks DH how his injuries are; he says they are almost healed. He says that he thought she was going to ask the question again, that if he had not removed his name from the rock, would he have fallen for her. His answer is yes (not what I was expecting). Next he confirmed what I knew all along by clearly stating it--that he underwent that heavenly trial to fulfill his own personal wish. He tells her to leave. And smiles, before turning to go. I think he is rather amazed at his own admission. Poor Fj (if I didn't know about pillow book I won't lie I might not have finished this drama).
8.We change our scene to BQ who is wearing gray (mourning) and wandering through the peach blossoms in a bit of a bored daze. While she is sleeping BQ dreams she is visited by YH. She embraces him and then he fades away. BQ wanders around, calling for him. 4th brother shames her and says that she should be able to survive without him. She says it isn't that she can't, it's just that she doesn't know how
9.BQ confesses she told YH that he spent his lifetime seeking what he could not have; she admits she is not different. BQ admits she cannot live without him.
10. BQ continues to see him in her dreams. I am not sure if this is actually YH communicating to her or not. But who cares?
11. Time passes, and soon 3 years have passed. FJ is having her hair brushed by her mother. She is wearing really bright red lipstick. Apparently her aunt has been travelling for years. Wearing a red dress, FJ is about to be introduced as the next queen (?). Her father leads her outside and all the people watch while she is being led to a platform. Even now she is thinking of DH . Her internal monologue reveals that he has been working hard, has insomnia. DH is at the top of the platform, and she walks to him, and she decides that from today forward she will embrace her duties as queen and she says she can no longer do what she used to do (he isn't there it is her imagination). I think she is choosing to bear the burden of her tribe since her aunt can't do it because she is not in any frame of mind to.
12. (this is actually more fitting with her personality for pillow book). Si Ming shows up with a gift from DH. He gives her a map that he personally made and used to conquer the world. Apparently this is a big deal as not even the celestial king could use it. She asks for a message. Si Ming says that she will understand when she opens it. In return she gives him a bow and hopes that they remain friends. DH in his study has watched the entire thing. It looks like he has her tail, that she cut off, on his belt. I take it that is his way of acknowledging their mutual feelings?
13.We change scenes to the mortal realm (has she basically given up on her kid?). BQ is drinking tea and watching a play. Some random lower deity shows up and begs for money--she gives it. She appears interested in her brother. They muse about how much it sucks to be mortal. BQ reports that it doesn't matter if she can't differentiate between dreams and reality because it is still life.
14. Apparently Si jin got reincarnated into a not so nice life...

1.Before Fengjiu can answer to the alleged adultery, Dong Hua interrupts her and clearly gives her an out, blaming the power struggles of the harem. Fengjiu says it is her fault for giving others the impression that she is a temptress. So it seems that she fails to follow through with her task. (I don't blame her).
2.Si Ming a.k.a. star man explains that there are six hardships, and one includes betrayal from the one you love. He also warns her that if Dong Hua learns that she avoided doing her job he will 'condemn them'. (Really?? I can't see it). Fengjiu says she can't bear to hurt him. This is truly an awful thing to ask someone who you know is in love with you to do. Dong Hua my respect for you lowers with each scene.
3.Dong Hua continues to have his doubts, and then Si Ming disguises himself as a guard and reports that something illicit is happening.....(TRAITOR)
4.Fengjiu magically appears in the crown prince's bath, ready to seduce. The emperor is watching the whole thing. Dong Hua looks absolutely terrifying. The look in his face is truly frightening. Fengjiu says she has nothing to say when he asks. He says no one is to know about this matter besides the three of them, before walking away, looking crazy. And THEN he coughs up blood and collapses ????????
5.Fengjiu is at his bed side, in tears. I feel so bad for her. She really has got the short end of the stick. All the concubines are there, and they toss her out. Fengjiu has to listen to the head consort say awful things about her as she is dragged away by guards. She tries to tell him that she had reasons to betray him but it is too late it seems. My heart is popping out. The authors are cruel. Why would they make Fengjiu have to do this? Why does she have to suffer so much?
6.Si Ming Tries to remind her that this is Dong Hua, and she tries to explain her love and worries to him but says 'you can't understand' and she hopes he will remember in the immortal realm, everything they have done (I guess this means his promises_. Si Ming said he can't forget everything but the relationship will change because he will be a god again. He also warns her that their romance started and ends in the mortal realm. POOR FENGJIU. This is a cruel thing Dong Hua has chosen to do to her. And extremely selfish I might add.
7.Dong Hua has a vision of Fengjiu walking towards him. Although ill he grabs the bell she gives him and squeezes it tightly before coughing up more blood and (dying?). Fengjiu is inconsolable in her cell. Si Ming is even having trouble with this task. He begs the gods to give him a clear head.
8.It seems the emperor has died 18 years too soon. He was supposed to live longer. Si Ming wonders if it is because of losing the one he loves, further adding to Fengjiu's heartbreak and despair. Si Ming then runs off and leaves her alone?!!
9.Back in the immortal realm Dong Hua awakens (so pretty again) and he appears to be not in a good mood. He remembers everything that has happened. He thinks back to everything he has done with Fengjiu and he seems to be visibly troubled, and angry, because his hand is in a fist. because he is still holding the bell!!!!!!!!!!!!! Strangely, cousin just arrived when he died...And yet he seems to show no concern or regret, that Fengjiu is currently rotting in some cell someone because of something he wanted her to do. NEVER TRUST BEAUTIFUL MEN WITH WHITE HAIR.
10.What will Dong Hua do now? I sincerely hope he does not mistreat Fengjiu. Even Dong Hua does not know why he died sooner than expected. Si Ming believes the love trial was too much to bear for him. Does not care about what is happening to Fengjiu back in the mortal realm? Won't she be killed?
11. Ye hua immediately arrives to inquire about divine fungal grass, I am assuming, to resurrect Mo Yuan. While he admits he is strong enough to obtain it he suggests Ye Hua do it himself. Dijin shares everything he knows about Bai Quian, including that she is Si Yin. (but what about Fengjiu????)
12.Dong Hua explains that because of his hardships he can understand empathy/love now and why Bai Quian is so attached to Mo Yuan. (again, what about Fengjiu???) This can't be reassuring for Ye Hua.
13. Ye Hua takes the magical lamp and prepares to take it to Mo Yuan. We are treated to an annoying (but necessary) scene with A-Li (I admit bias here; I don't like child actors). Then back to Bai Quian strolling along the beach with Phoenix. They are here to see the sea prince. Bai Quian continues to delay meeting Mo Yuan. She takes out Mo Yuan's soul fragments, I think, in a very emotional scene before running into Yu Hua who looks to be more miserable and cold as he watches Bai Quian express a level of care and concern for Mo Yuan that she has not shown anyone else (naturally he mistakes it for love).
14. Ye Hua is in tears basically and muses on how everything is a mess right now before leaving. Bai Quian is equally confused. End episode (again, what about Fengjiu????)

1. In the very first scene Yu Hua finally has a confirmation to two burning questions: where was Bai Quian all those years ago, and did she take something to forget her memory? Phoenix god tells the truth, to the extent that he knows: that she was missing, that she was found injured, and that he gave her the potion to forget at her request. Phoenix connected the dots and assumed she was Su Su, which Yu Hua confirms. Yu Hua explains how he know Bai Quian and Su Su were the same, beginning with her mannerisms.
2.Proving to be unusually dense, Yu Hua tells phoenix he suspects she wants to forget him becuase of Mo Yuan. HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? Mo Yuan is dead. Su Su had no memory of him when she lept to her death, and also, Yu Hua did a number of awful things to her, beginning with failing to protect her, ignoring her, not explaining anything to her, lying left and right, AND TAKING HER DAMN EYES OUT OF HER HEAD!! I really find this to be a poorly scripted part. Ye Hua needs to take responsibility for his behavior and begin with an apology. Pardon my angry outburst at obvious blame dodging, I find it hard to believe that is his biggest insecurity. I would be more concerned about her remembering what he did than about Mo Yuan, who is currently dead, and therefore, not in anyway a threat.
3. In a stroke of genius Xian Xu uses her vulnerability to cause a guard to have his guard down. She kills him and (while carrying around her still dead baby) grants a most unusual request: Li Huan reveals the curse, that the death of him and his siblings will strengthen his father. He wants to awaken him and have him kill everyone. This seems reasonable to Xian Nu as she is too weak to do anything. I kind of respect Li Huan for this extremely brave move, it isn't like he will be able to know if his father is ever successful. But his hatred and bitterness transcends even that. What is truly awful is he tells her exactly how to kill his sweet sister. Even Xian Nu finds this request to be vicious. I genuinely pity Xian Nu, I always have. She kills him and takes his jade which is supposed to help him find his sister.
4....In a death bell far far away Ciang Ciang stirs and he says he raised only one good child because his child sacrificed himself. Ciang Ciang says he will slaughter the entire world.
5. Xuan Nu clumsily makes her way through the woods while carrying her dead baby (it's really sad she doesn't have more confidence) she is using her own blood I think to keep the child's body from decaying. Now a fugitive, she is hiding from ghost soldiers. It is extremely sad to watch. She becomes homesick and chooses to see her mother. Sadly, she overhears her mother essentially disowning her and stating angrily she has no daughter, focusing on her traitorous behavior. Sadly, she can't accept responsibility for her actions and continues to blame Bai Quian. She is a little right--I mean Li Jing was in love with Bai Quian, however Bai Quian had no control over any of that.
6. Xuan Nu nearly runs into Li Jing ho is waiting to see Bai Quian. This seems to cement her desire to punish everyone. Can't say I blame her. Even on the eve of her own execution her husband is trying to see Bai Quian. If Li Jing had loved her even a little bit I don't think she would have become so twisted. But he tolerated her kept her close (physically I mean), bullied her (which was undoubtedly a trick just to get him to notice her, even if it was negative attention) and didn't even try to hide his feelings for Bai Quian. I'm not saying it makes her behavior okay but I can feel empathy for her.
7.Yay Fengjui and Dong Hua!!!!!!! So it's raining when we open to this couple. He carries her on his back!!!! This is just so darn sweet, because immortal Dong Hua would never deign to do something so romantic. He says he can't bear to see her feet wet so he carries her. She's still wearing the bell she stole. Awwwww. This will be burned in my memory.
8. Next scene is discarded clothing and cuddles on Dong Hua's bed....oh my gosh he says he wants to have a baby with her (basically he says I have been doting on you for so long i.e. we have been sleeping together for a long time) and she admits she has no control over that (perhaps si ming did not write that into her story?) the scene ends with them making love again. I think they have had more sex than any other character in the series, and that includes Li Jing (sorry was that crass?)
9. Dong Hua spoon feeds Fengjui...omg I melted during this scene. She asks him, 'Will you always treat me will' and he promises 'I will always treat you well'.
10. Why does she have to break his heart??? Why does Dijun want her to hurt him? WTF? I knew it. he is a sadist/masochist. Making her hurt him and enjoying the suffering. Dijun, who knew you harbored such dark thoughts??? She shouldn't have to do that to someone she loves! What could be worse than hurting the one you love? That's it Dijun. I am breaking up with you. You can't hurt my girl like that!
----i know this is going to have negative consequences later. But i feel like if she doesn't do it, then it's also bad. I am feeling great conflict and frustration!--sorry readers. I am writing this literally as I watch the show so you are all reading my feelings as they pop up--maybe she will have his love child now that would be a twist
11. meanwhile someone...i think 18th? (feels like dragonball z with all the numbers) runs into Li Jing's sister who is working as a maid somewhere. i think it is safe to assume they will fall in love, leading to another complicated love story.
12.Ye Hua and Bai Quian run into Li Jing on their way to heaven. When I think about all the people Li Jing has had to apologize for, I really feel bad for him. His one mistake was messing things up with Bai Quian and it has haunted his every waking minute. And Bai Quian will never forgive him.
13.He tries to give her the jade stone...and she essentially says we don't need it. She encourages him to lives his life and move on as she has. She clearly tells him that she was once in love with him but she was also naive. She explains how she felt after he lied to her about the stone, and how he disappointed she was. END EPISODE

1. It doesn't really add up that Dong Hua is the father of the reincarnated Yi Zhen but time moves differently. It seems too convenient for me. Oh well.
2.Ye Hua with his hair down!!!! He and Bai Qian share a bed but it is innocent. She likes him a lot I gather to allow this.
3. Ye Hua gives her some protective beads and kisses her forehead after asking her to do his hair.
4.Bai Quian spends her time as Yi Zhens shifu (yawn sorry this episode really dragged for me)
5.about 15 min in Bai Quian encounters her niece who faints to avoid talking to her. She worries about being taken away and her aunt learning she used the two lives curse to stay and serve (wink) dong Hua
6. Ghost queen plans to use the elixir chamber to burn mo yuan and make a life saving drink for her son. Even her own soldiers appear disturbed by this taboo magic
7. Bai Fengjiu explains her reason for using the curse that she can love Dong Hua by day and be free of those feelings at night. She then says it is essentially a more legit form of love to love when no one is looking. I take this means she is okay with just serving Dong Hua and either no ready to commit or she has made her needs (and love) second. She also explained that she is supporting Dong Hua until he meets the woman he is to love on the fated day. Being dumber than a sack of rocks (in a cute way not annoying) she hasn't realized that the woman is her. Also probs why she hasn't slept with him.
8. Her aunt calls Don Hua lacking in goals but Bai Fengjiu defends him explaining he has never experienced true love. She also confirms he has not raped her after her aunt asks, her aunt tells her she plans to remove Yi zhen from dong huas trial of llove.
---I cannot imagine Don Hua raping anyone even as a human---
9. The Phoenix god is summoned to help a sea kings eldest son who is in a coma. The Phoenix god explains he is safe but must investigate some things first.
10.Bai Quian explains that Yu Zhen will be saved from the trial by having someone push the emperor into the water while invisible. I guess the attention will be on the emperor and not the beauty they are fated to love. Snake goddess volunteers in spite of the danger of using the spell. So the next option is second prince
11.second prince wonders if Bai Qian picked him out for of revenge for canceling the engagement FYI anyone who uses their powers in the mortal realm will get in big trouble. His wife talks him out of this way of thinking. He goes to see Bai Quian and remarks on he resemblance to Si Yin ( how has none figured this out yet?)
12, Don Hua is watching some dancers ( I miss his god form....) and Bai Fengjiu is watching Don Hua. In the brush Si Ming and Ye Hua are watching everyone else. The plan is ready to start....
13.she is able to use her power as a shifu to lure Yi Zhen away. A roc bird appears and Don Hua suspects it to be an omen...is I good or bad?
14.a woman is snatched by the bird and drops into the water. Someone invisible pushes the emperor into the water and everyone focuses on saving him. Apparently Don Hua cannot swim. Bai Fengjiu jumps in to save him. Ye Hua uses his magic to intercept Bai Quian because someone pushes her in the water.
15. We learn of course that this was si mings plan all along and he explains in a few months Bai Fengjiu will get what she wants.... I assume she will become Don hua's lover !!
16. The emperor Don Hua awakens in Bai Fengjiu arms....awwww
17.we learn that the one who pushed Bai Quian is the sea goddess princess now servin Su Jin. Su Jin is upset because while not her plan she failed. She clearly needs to get rid of her in case Ye Hua investigates. I am certain she believes everything is justified because she loves him.

I don't have many wuxias under my belt, other than Journey of Flower and to a certain extent, Prince of Lan Ling. These I loved. Thus, I was looking forward to this show for a LONG TIME.
First, the music is amazing. Like really well done music for the scenes that occur...
Since the show is expected to be 62 episodes long, I can assess that the plot and its characters should be thoroughly developed. And there are a LOT of people, and names are not my forte so I will do my best. I don't speak the language so I appreciate your patience.
Before I summarize, understand that the weather CGI, set (the palace could be something out of Lord of the Rings), costumes, make up, weapons, and actors are all stunningly beautiful. This stands out to me because in most dramas there are a couple of beautiful people and the rest are sort of butter faced/forgettable. No. EVERYONE IS BEAUTIFUL. It is distracting at times. Because I need to read the subtitles...and yet I am captivated by everyone's beauty. First for me.
The CGI for animals...for instance, is typical cheesy CGI fare but since everything else is stunning, I can overlook that.
The unique characters for this episode hail from four groups: The Guardians (messengers/peacekeepers between mortals/gods--the rule is they must be mortal, amazing battle skills, and psychic), the Ice Tribe (all white haired beauties with blue eyes think Sesshomaru minus the evil intent, if you watched Inuyasha as a kid)*they wear silver or blue), the fire tribe (black hair/red eyes, wears red or black), and the Mermaid Tribe (neutral, they swim and so they walk poorly on land and have really cool hair that is curly with blue ends--really pretty).
Unique characters: Ka Suo (crown prince who is as pretty as a girl), the fire prince (forgot his name will never forget his epic hair), the boy ice prince born of a mistress/second wife with dark hair, implying he is a halfling (?) , the mermaid princess, and the mortal envoy (guardians).
_____________________________________________________________________________
The show opens up with an epic Lord of Rings style battle between what can be presumed fire and ice tribes, then camera zooms in to Ka Suo (he played prince of lan ling) on a faraway island. There is a rock covered in blood and some four winged bird crashes into it. Then he has a monologue, thinking back to the days before he was king.....
PRESENT DAY (technically the past if you follow his flash-back monologue)
It is Ka Suo's coming of age ceremony. He is 130. Really old, and really beautiful.
Everyone seems to be excited, and he remains polite but stoic. He is playing with his pet flying lion (here he is more free/animated), because, you know, apparently these exist in the ice realm, and is reprimanded by other members of the royal family for being late to his own ceremony.
He leaves, runs into his grandmother who is a bit eccentric and has a birds nest in her hair (looks coutoure and cool), before helping out his little brother who is something of a misfit--he has a scruffy haircut and it seems no powers. The other kids (bullies, so naturally, this being a chinese drama, they are primarily unattractive and a bit plus sized) are about to hurt him, Ka Suo steps in and they fly off on the lion to his ceremony.
Just as the Ice King congratulates his son, a hush descends--the fire prince has shown up to give a gift but everyone is skeptical and certain he is up to no good. They aren't wrong. He offers a gift and challenges Ka Suo to a fight. Ka Suo must be careful, because he could trigger a war and end the 100 yr truce between the kingdoms--which seems to be about as stable as a house of cards.
He uses his cleverness to outwit the fire prince, claiming that if he boils some frozen lake water he wins, and if Ka Suo freezes it , he wins. Cool battle ensues, and it is a draw--the water is warm. So neither win. Also, young ice prince shows up with a bunch of five year olds who thank him for warming the water up--it is extremely cheesy but funny.
The fire prince remarks that it is Ka Suo's cleverness he should be wary of before storming off, epic hair flying in the wind. Mermaid Princess, who is so pretty and has really cool hair, has a crush on him it seems. She tells the young prince to pass on a message--to meet her in the woods or she 'won't leave'.
SCENE CHANGE
Ka Suo is hanging underneath the prettiest tree in the universe, talking to an owl to communicate with our mortal guardian--she is direct, spunky, brash, and can anticipate all his questions. This fascinates Ka Suo, who is intrigued and wishes to meet her (BTW, he is immortal and doesn't eat so it seemed he earlier asked her questions about human digestion---funny stuff).
Possible love interest?
SCENE CHANGE
Instead of going home, fire prince litterally dusts some ice soldiers and goes into an off limits area of the ice woods, for reasons I don't know. He then proceeds to try to rape mermaid princess, claiming that he intends on having her as a wife because she is so beautiful--and it is a very well-orchestrated scene worthy of any soap opera. She loses half of her clothes, exposing just enough skin to avoid censoring and looking like a Sabine Woman fleeing a Roman invader (google it if you don't know).
The show ends with Ka Suo showing up.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I like Mermaid Princess's Look--because it is unconventional for a drama ...she looks almost Mediterranean....or something. Exotic, maybe it's her hair. I don't know. If she is destined to be the female love interest, then I anticipate character growth--she is currently very shy and naive and criminally cute.
The mortal guardian girl is the exact opposite of her. Strong, confident, good in battle, and unintentionally cute. She doesn't dislike the prince but seems to find him odd/amusing for his interest in humans. She also is unconventional and seems to not respect traditions/roles.
Ka Suo...is extremely likable and clearly he becomes a very different person by the end of the show.
Little prince is...naive...so he probably does a 180.
And the fire prince...is smug, overconfident, caustic, and strong bad boy vibes. And crazy hair.
I encourage everyone to give this show a try.

Spoilers Ahead1)In a scene that is just beautifully shot, Ming Lan jumps into the river after forcing her maid to jump. As she drowns, arrows fly past her, and she sees the doll that Yuan Ruo gifted her and she reaches up to grab it and clutches it close to her heart. She appears to be dying, and then suddenly a man dives in to rescue her.2)She awakens in a tent, her clothes are changed, and a little girl feeds her ginger soup. The little girl tells her that her father rescued her. This father then enters the tent, and Ming Lan gives him her family name and asks him to come see her later so she can reward him. He tells her she should protect her reputation and then looks directly at her, and this is when she recognizes that it is Second Uncle. He explains that he is a wanderer and looking for his son, that she was right about his mistress.3(Outside around the campfire we learn that Shitou, GTY's personal servant, has a sister who is part of this river gang and it was her who changed Ming Lan's clothes. She explains that GTY wasn't going to involve himself with the river bandits until he recognized the Sheng people, and then he saw her fall into the river and went to rescue her and she talks about how pretty she is (Pay attention to GTY's face when she says pretty I swear it is like he agrees with her I could be imagining it). Ming Lan observes Rong'er (the daughter) and then asks to walk with GTY.4)Ming Lan begins by saying she owes him for her life, and GTY tells her that every time she begins a conversation this way, it is to give him bad news. She tells him she is worried about Rong'er and her future, because if he continues this lifestyle she will have no repuation. GTY is evasive and tells her he wants his daughter to be happy, as she is now, but when she tells him that life is not easy for a woman and that he should plan ahead. The two discuss their lives, he talks about his stepmother, and how he learned she is evil, and Ming Lan opens up a bit about her own situation: always needing to be careful in order to protect herself. (It is evident from the way he looks at her that his feelings about her have essentially changed I think). After she leaves he tells Shitou to send a message to the guy they rescued so they can join the army (he takes her advice!).5)Ming Lan is reunited with her grandmother who is overjoyed that she is safe and sound. We are now entering the Yanzhou arc, which a lot of people may find not as interesting, but it gives us a broader insight into how big the Sheng family is, and introduces Brother He again is important to plot advancement.6)We are introduced to the provincial cousin Pinlan who is described as a 'naive and naughty monkey'--she will be Minglan's buddy out here. Since the rules are a lot less strict when you go to the countryside, Ming Lan will now have opportunities to do/learn new things. As long as they take male servants with them, there is more freedom to venture out and explore. 7)The weather is now cold, and GTY arrives to report for military duty. He is sent to the Huang Squad whhich i the lowest ranking squad. GTY does not protest nor does he reveal that he is a Marquis, he goes by the name of Bai. We learn that the general sent him to the lowest ranking squad because he doesn't seem to give a fig about recommendations, nor does he seem to like the idea of someone expecting him to give a stranger a good position8)Back to Ming Lan, she is struggling to shoot arrows while her cousins hunt rabbits with her. Back to GTY, his job seems to be digging graves. Back to Ming Lan: they appear to be celebrating the mid autumn festival. After showing the traditions, we learn that an in law is coming whom Pinglan does not like because they are obnoxious (seems like the 'new money trope' i.e. she was poor has money now but has the coarse attitude and rude attitude of a poor person/isn't refined). This New Money lady seems to wish that she marry her off to Ming Law and is not subtle in asking. She also seems to be intoxicated. Old Madam flat out refuses. 9)GtY believe that an attack is about to occur because it is too quiet and they are on a plain. He tries to notify the commander, but the general throws him out. He is given permission to lead out a cavalry (he has already gathered around him a little group of men who seem to respect him) and he gives orders for them to get all their friends and even the villagers prepared. Note: I think the drowning scene is incredibly powerful, and sad because she's always alone, even dying alone, but then GTY saves her :) He is always there for her when it matters the most.
