It's definitely a breach of ethics, but this is a cdrama... while i don't buy it, i found most people here are of the opinion that he was pretending to be asleep (which makes zero sense, since he actually respects people around him/xi fan).

i think it's extremely weird. but so far (i'm on episode 14) he didn't lead xi fan on or belittle her or her dreams like her ex boyfriend did.

And her ex boyfriend treated her horribly.

Xi Fan and Suye's first attempt at a kiss is when he's sleeping on his couch... so underwhelming and weird, considering how thoughtful Suye is about not only Xi Fan, but others around him...
