I sometimes think female characters can't win. We get a character like Han Na who's reserved and somewhat cold…
your right, male actors get the heat too but its deffo harder on the female leads. In this comment section i've noticed plenty hate on both actors which is quite surprising since bo gum did WLGYT this year!
However, poor so hyun is always under fire no matter the role, it doesn't help that shes not head over heels for YDJ starting from episode 1.
BRAIN vs BRAWN is your answer!dong ju is a boxer not a scholar, he thinks with his fists not his brain. Most boxers/wrestlers…
he got into trouble thats why he's here, 1st episode they said he beat up all the corrupt officers for taking bribes (again used his BRAWN not his BRAIN).
I would say maybe this might not be your cup of tea then. Dong Ju's character is one I enjoy, although at times I will find him frustrating because he acts in a method of self-sabotage, where I would have instead played a mind game (Zhang Hai from LOZH for example).
Spoilers ahead. Why did they make/write Dong Ju character to be so reckless/over the top? Walking without a plan…
BRAIN vs BRAWN is your answer!
dong ju is a boxer not a scholar, he thinks with his fists not his brain. Most boxers/wrestlers back in the day are the same, they're knuckle-heads! Literally it might feel like they lose brain cells every time they get hit in the head but that is exactly what they're like, thats why hes a special-recruit, he'd fail all the writing exams if he was to try to get into police, he couldn't even type in the group chat however hes from the streets, he can take on a fight and go head on with however many.
Also as for wrestle-mania, he actually quoted MA's famous quote that ends with "his hands can't go, where his eyes can't see", this man's 20/20 vision and strong body are the only thing he has and thats exactly what he used. From our POV's as people with brains, this decision is so stupid but to that dumba-ss it made him frantically laugh.
I think judging the fact that the male lead is not smart, is pointless because thats his character, they emphasize that every time they call him "crazy" and his emotions basically make him reckless. Dong Ju is not your ideal smart man. If he was he'd be looking for evidence instead of going to beat up Ju Yeong under the influence of his anger and getting himself in trouble.
Lastly as for Ju Yeong basically confessing to dong ju, hes similar, acts on his emotions, he blew his however many years long cover up just because his manager hit his ego. He obvi has more brain than dong ju but he's also easily influenced by emotions.
3rd rewatch, it inspires me every time, even though I'm in a completely different field of work!
