I’ve read something on IG, that in the manga (around Vol. 7) Hase basically proposed some agreement to Hongyo about his novel, that he should finish it first before going to Terada (and she should not know about the agreement). Can someone clarify this?

I think your explanation for the cat talk does make sense. Having watching some j-drama, im guessing (just putting my 2 cents for it) that terada will choose no one. After all the things happened to them, I think she will realize that self-worth is more important, that being with someone who just wants to be with you because it is beneficial on their end.
