That ending was completely unecessary; it was just dramatic for the sake of being dramatic...

No it wasnt, it was nescessary. The whole drama was about her getting her revenge, would you just want it to be a boring ending where she gives it up and everyone lives happily ever after, no climax? It was a great plot twist. And it's a brutal story, a bittersweet ending made sense.
