Totally unrelated to the plot, but the outfits in this drama are absolutely amazing and so is the cinematography. I can totally see why this sets a benchmark of dramas of that time, it's cliched but somehow very polished and nuanced at the same time, in some ways ahead of its time, they don't make it like this anymore fr
After watching flower of evil i didnt think I could ever say that Kim Ji Hoon is cute but OH MY GOSHHHHH HE IS SO CUTEEE IN THIS WTH, this is some sort of sorcery
Gosh she is absolutely gorgeous, can we PLEASE see her in a main role!!! I wanna see her in a thriller, I feel she can play an understated anti-hero really well or a protagonist of a slow drama like My Liberation Notes. Hopefully soon.
she has an interesting writing career for sure, I watched Lovers and was taken back by the sincerity and yearning, it almost had a literary quality to it -- there was scene in particular where the ML is practically begging the FL to hold his hand and the way it was written and everything that led up to that moment brought me down to my knees, amazing stuff FR. So imagine my shock when I realised she had written TKEM which couldn't capture even an iota of sincerity Lovers had. But then guess what- I discover she wrote the masterpiece Mr.Sunshine??? I'm genuinely baffled lmao
I feel that K-Drama genres get simplified too often (maybe lost in translation or TV stations reluctant to reveal…
Jen, I just listened to your podcast and omg thank you. You gave me such a sense of closure. I still think the ending could've been written differently but I thank you for reminding me why the show was so impactful up until the 15th EP. I really liked what you had to say about their different locus of controls. In a perfect world BJK would've been just as reckless as NDH and got her back but alas lol.
Consider me Baekho to your Seung Wan because I am hooked on your podcast ;p
Interesting perspective. I agree with the fact that the writer seemed to force a poignant ending on the viewers,…
EXACTLY, I totally get what you're saying. If they absolutelyHAD to show the whole trajectory of their relationship they should've ended it at the bus stop where they reconcile. Stretching it out with her reminiscing the past at that tunnel and the whole lost-and-found diary thing was so unnecessary

True I agree with that. I think she faced a similar problem in Search : WWW as well. I feel so bad because up until the 13th EP the drama didn't have such pacing and narrative problems. If she had kept the theme melo through the course of the show then maybe the ending wouldn't have felt so out of place, you are right when you say she should've stuck to one narrative. While I can appreciate non-linear narrative or unreliable narrators this one felt like such a disservice to such beautifully fleshed out characters. :(
I’m not a shipper, but you don’t end a romance story with a breakup. You end a breakup story with a breakup.…
Interesting perspective.
I agree with the fact that the writer seemed to force a poignant ending on the viewers, imo it didn't align with the character's personalities.
That being said, I don't think the writer was being manipulative, the theme of the show which seems to be 'ephemeriality of youth' was very clearly expressed from the get go, that itself renders the hope of BYJ and NHD ending up together at the end useless. In the first ep it is evident that BYJ and NHD are no longer in touch when NHD's mother says "I saw Baek Yi Jin today" also her kid's last name is Kim which is also something that's already presented to us in the first episode.
I don't think the writer was trying to write about romance at all, but I guess the problem with her script was 'their 'realistic' ending wasn't realistic for the characters themselves, they wanted to do something different but it was so unconvincing bc of how strong their foundation was, despite the reason for their breakup being believable. They reconciled at the bus stop only to never speak to each other again? I call bullshit, their characters simply won't do that, that's so disingenuous and big a disservice to all the character development they supposedly went through in the 10 years of their relationship w each other.
This shit was so cute, it's not a cinematic masterpiece by any means but omg I'd watch it again and again. I wish Netflix picks this up so i can watch it in HD. Love to see a genuinely nice male lead, his smile is so cute ;-;
