Yeah nowadays some of the drama adaptations are better than the original novel. Some even changed to make it even more reasonable.

He did call his mother “mom” in some parts and called the doctor “Dad Zhou” then clarified he is not his dad…as for the dad, he will probably do in upcoming episodes? XD He probably called the mother name as being playful?
