I think they gave themselves their nicknames. As many characters in the drama discover their secret identities, they say that their nicknames and their real names are really similar and have just one character difference. Plus they were probably young teenagers when they came up with their nicknames so they just rearranged their real names.
Is this really a mess of a drama as people make it out to be? Maybe it's because I was super sick and delirious while watching this drama, but I didn't notice all of the flaws that everyone is pointing out.
I honestly wanted to see more heartwarming scenes between Lanxi and his older brother, it's so rare to see this kind of brotherly love in a political historical drama that is strong from beginning to end. I kinda wanted Lanxi to find out about his brother's epilepsy and tell him that he still loves him because it was so sad when the evil Queen Baili was saying the brother was disgusting and possessed by a demon.
I was legit afraid the drama would turn his brother evil with jealously because I thought he was gonna have a crush or something on Bai Fengxi like every other drama. Thank goodness that didn't happen.
