I felt the Chong Zhao and Fu Ling romance was forced. I didn't buy it. I don't see the chemistry they're talking…
Actually you're not alone on that. I wasn't feeling much chemistry between them, I felt more chemistry during the scenes her and Chen Ye would have fights infront of Zhen Yu. As for Chang Hua Sen as Chong Zhao all I could say I wasn't over all impressed with his eternal character either, he felt too one dimensional and bland for me. I think partially because I was annoyed yet again with his character and this is the third drama which I watched where he played the obsessive kinda 2ml.
His villain role was better imo too. I think the letter subplot was just overall unnecessary. I get you on that one and then they could've made something out of that aspect. But I seriously wished her loveline was with Qi Feng. Their tandem was more interesting tbh. I even felt the impact of their last scene together. It would be so much more interesting to see a dynamic between the 2 ruthless villains compared to one ruthless vilalin and a good-ish eternal.
well-written review 👏 I think this is the downside of cutting down number of episodes in xianxia dramas that's why it feels like a rush or some of things that could have been explored more are left out bcoz they're trying to fit everything in a max number of 40 eps. I finally found a review that speaks about my exact same sentiment with regards to the second couple.
No shade but I really disliked what they did to their romance, like what you said the letters shouldn't have been the catalyst, it really felt as if Chong Zhao only loved Bai Xi and not Fuling. Also, same here 🙋♀️ I actually shipped Chen Ye and Fuling more since the start, I saw more potential and chemistry between their banters than the seductive-ish sucking out of poison scene

Fan Yue coming back makes sense, Jing Yuan learnt that Xing Yue is long gone and Bai Shuo is not Xing Yue, so he decided to let go of the 'mantle' hence Fan Yue was able to return because Jing Yuan would rather be with Xing Yue.
