In my opinion, it has to do more with peoples double standards towards female characters. Like if she is a strong character they will say she lacks feelings, if she is a weak they will say they are useless. But --- male characters whether they are badly written or not, as long as they have visuals audience would swoon over to them. Even the toxic, manipulative and red flag male leads aren't that criticize as heavily as female characters do.
WX character here is just 'physically weak' but she is smart and she is not useless. I don't think her character is badly written. Just because she is a physically weak character doesn't make her badly written. Like you said she adds essence to the story and she served as a guide for the team. The real problem lies with how GJM failed to utilize her character in the drama, he failed to give her limelight and the 'baize goddess' more arc in the story.
To add, if she is badly written then there is no need for her to be added in the story but that is not the case here. As main leads are not only sharing the story with the 2 of them, they share it with the second leads and supporting characters even the guest characters, so the limelight/spotlight was not evenly given.

It's my first time watching seven's drama, I actually didn't expect her to already be in her 30s because her visuals looks way too young compared to her age, so when I checked her profile I got surprised. I am loving her here and I think her portrayal of JYY is so well-done! not many actresses can play younger roles that convincingly ; it's not that easy you need a good set of acting skills other than just a young look to deliver such roles. Seven here is the perfect FL for this drama, she clearly can act and is talented imo.
I just hope this doesn't fall flat by second half of the episodes, my expectation now soared higher after watching earlier episodes the tension and chemistry between the leads plus sense of mystery is keeping me interested along with the family issues
