This drama has been quite a disappointment for me. The plot feels uninspiring, and Bai Lu's character doesn't…
agreed. empty plot, nothing significant has happened in 16 episodes. The current episodes could've fit into 6. I can't believe we have 20 more episodes to go omgggg, Bai Lu is waaay too big and seasoned for this stupid plot.
I know what you mean you’re not alone and again it’s supposed to be in Africa I think 💀☠️🤪Unfortunately…
Totally agree with you sis. I remember the outrage from the Arab community after the appearance of a Gulf business man in 'King the Land', and a lot of Koreans didn't understand the backlash.
When you are portraying other cultures that you are not familiar with, you should do so with respect and proper research. However, it seems a lot of Asian filmmakers are ok with perpetuating stereotypes about other cultures, but when it is done to them, they are outraged and want instant cancelation. It's sad that this continues, and I hope to never see this trope again in any dramas. Asian dramas have a large support base across Africa and the diaspora, and we deserve to be treated with respect.
PS: thanks for your support, I was expecting to be met with a lot of pushback but I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing this problem :)
Yeah, their interpretation of places other than China is sometimes perplexing. This is how stereotypes and close-minded…
Exactly, and this is about the 4th C-drama I've seen use this trope, and it's really unnerving. It's like they forget how big of a black/foreign base they have watching and supporting their shows. Soon as I see this plot I turn off the show or wait until they're back to China. I feel like the Korean shows also do this sometimes but definitely not to this degree, hence why I only mentioned C-dramas at first.

Yeah I 100% agree with you, I just think there are rural areas in China that also need medical aid, whether they are portraying a fictional place in Africa or somewhere else, the inclusion of these stereotypes is not ok, and I think Chinese would be outraged if they were portrayed in this way in western Media, and rightfully so.
I really wish C-dramas would stop with these "medical aid in third world country" tropes. It's actually hella racist to see these black or brown kids with "stains" on their faces to appear poor or destitute. Turns me off. Next time stick to another plot, thanks
Dylan Wang is too young for this role. looks like a kid wearing dress up, not at all convincing. They should've used an actor that was atleast 30 years old.
All the crdamas of that era have the same type of premise, there is no japanese-war era drama where the story…
Yeah i get what you mean. The propaganda didn't bother me so much at first, but the last couple of episodes have really ramped it up to an 11 so it's super annoying. Every 2 minutes, a character has to complement the CCP and its ideology. I have absolutely nothing against nationalism or ideological promotion but damn can we tone is down just a tad haha
