It was related to the story he told Teru about a woman (his colleague) when they had an office party, some guys asked her to perform, but what she did was a cawing sound. After that, she was gone. Their boss threw her résumé, but this man kept her photo. Maybe she grew on him or turned out to be special, idk.
So yeah, I don't get why he said in front of him, I thought he would say in front of Teru because she might disappear from his side too. Or maybe he just meant Mizue reminds him of the woman.

I also thought it's platonic, since in the scene when Ayaka went to the flower shop, the seller asked her about Akito, then she replied "he's not my boyfriend, we're rivals" implying that both of them are the only friends of Haruna, so she painting the nails of Akito doesn't mean she's in love with him, but more like she witnessed that feeling from the two of them.
