I also was thinking she meant WJ not an heir, but she said " divorced man, with a kid born of a mistress" as in what's so special about WJ for her daughter to be so obsessed with him. Yes, that woman in ep 5 is WJ's ex-wife who was also his girlfriend in college. However, in ep 16, after the 12 minute mark, Hye Ra's mom said that WJ's daughter is born of a mistress not his girlfriend/ ex-wife. Who is the biological mom of Ha Rim? The stepmom and Hye Ra's mom are both claiming different women as the mom.
