So I've liked everyone's comments and threw in a few light ones of my own, but I can't let this series without sharing my thoughts. I only entered to this wonderful world of thai bls a few short months ago. And have I been hit with its raw truth, emotions and humanity. I love it!!! I don't really want to post a review, I'd rather share my feeling here with you who have gone on this KP journey me.
Agree or disagree, here's my long ass rant:
Naturally, the pool scene in the first trailer drew me in, like so many others.😊 But after watching the press conference did I realise how layered each aspect of this series would be. It was evident from the beginning how invested the whole KP team was. During the whole each cast and team member was so honest and professional about the effort that had been put into Kinnporshe The Series. I was convinced - I was going to watch this start to finish! Next thing you know, I had my VIP iQiYi subscription and eagerlt waited for episode 1. Well the rest is history - I've been blown away from the sheer amazing performances and production for 14 wonderful albeit long gut renching weeks.
First off, hats off to the directors and the entire team. They managed to convey such strong and real emotions that anyone can relate to given the wonderfully thrilling mafia backdrop. We live in a very messed up world. Humanity may have progressed but this world is just as screwed up as before but just in different modern ways. They managed to take us through raw human emotions that can anyone can relate to.
KinnPorshe: For me, they've just been able to see right through one another from the beginning. Sure, they had to work out all the normal kinks of getting to know one another, first as friends and then as soul mates. Their dynamic showed me that you still can remain true and honest to yourself and family, while loving someone different to you. A lot of their truth is said in silence. Something that is hard to find in relationships. Kinn's eyes would get this soft understanding when Porshe is conflicted and doesn't know who to trust or what to do. Porshe may be a fish out of water in the mafia world but despite all the discord and lies, he's finding his path by himself but loving Kinn with his very essence all the same. The reason why I love their relationship is because of the little lies of ommission or white lies, they respect each other. It's a little annoying they're so whipped for each other that they literally forgot their world is crumbling around them - but hey ain't that love???
Mile and Apo really embodied these emotions and characteristics to the tee. From the "getting to know you phase" to "the honeymoon phase" all the way to "I'm bringing you home to meet the parents" phase
KimChay: What to say about the cuties of KP??? It's the perfect collision of naivety, and insecurity. First of hats off to Porshe for raising a pure soul like Porchay given their history. (I know it's a series, but you don't often get a character with such a back story who is as good and untouched by the evils of his past as Chay)
Damn these two. The least amount of screen time, but their growth from their heartbreak is something to bare witness too.
Kim can't help who is, just like Kinn: they can't escape their fate of being born as the heads of the first family. When you're taught not to trust anyone from a young age and you're naturally inquisitive, you get Kim. You keep people at a distance and use them to get what you want/need and send them away. (I think that's where mysterious ess and ego come from). That was clear from the very first scene they met. Chay had something he needed. But, he didn't anticipate loosing his heart in the process.
Chay embodies being in love for the first time. You're a blubeering mess but you can't stop the excitement and love you have for your person. You don't what the he'll you doing or feeling, you just got to be with them and do anything for them.
There's a maturity that Chay gains with Kim in his life. And Kim experiences the childlike lightness and playfulness that Chay's love brings. I feel that this scared the living crap out of him being a son of the first family. Where Kinn was openly soft to his boyfriends, Kim was guarded all around.
Jeff and Barcode really play off each other exceptionally. I've watched most of the special episodes and love how in character they got that it was difficult to break the scene.
Do the math: Kim + Chay = Heartbreak, but also growth and redemption through. Unlike KP, Kim and Chay fall short on communication. I truly believe they each will bring the other out of their shell and will flourish as one. Through thier drama, we've clearly seen Porchay stand up for himself and learn is worth; and we've seen Kim struggle with feeling he's been inadvertently been taught to bury surface and bite hum in the ass. All, I need now is for them to hash it all out so that they can be together.
VegasPete: My poor Vegas. Abused, burdened by generational expectations and left to slowly suffocate. Fine, he takes things to an extreme and can switch moods like a Damn switch, but I really wouldn't expect anything less given his situation.
I resonate with his character because I come from a similar background. We're all messed up one way or another and some of us are not warranted to get the help we need. We are doomed to suffer and barely survive for what seems and is an eternity while holding out a sliver of hope (more like ridiculous wishing since we taught that we are an will never be worthy) to find the person who will love us for who we truly are.
Enter Pete. Just as messed up, but with an advantage, a special skill: he mastered the mask of happiness. When he disclosed his story and actually pointing out that Vegas is actually a good person made to seem bad by his father - that was the moment for me that sealed Pete and Vegas. He showed Vegas that he's not at fault and that he's good but misguided.
And is that not what we all search for? The person who is as messed up and crazy as we are, who makes us realise that we are worth breathing? Vegas Pete taught me that no matter how worthless we may be made to feel, there's someone out there who knows and will shows us that we're worth it. A partner is not someone who gives you worth, but who shows you that you worth it all along.
Bloody hell, how many auditions did the production team go through to find Bible and Build??? The range of these two actor blow me away every time. Pete is this mysterious happy go lucky guy who is secretly dark and edgy and Vegas who is openly disturbed who just wants to be loved.
Bible and Build's performance and chemistry spectacularly off the charts!!! From beginning to end they complete each other. As they say opposites attract. The last few scenes really required each to trust the other. And I so believe they do. If I was just watching any of their scenes as someone who didn't follow the special episodes, I'd swear their reactions in every scene (good and bad) were real.
Last shout out to the KING!!!!
Tankuhn: I love Kinn, but honestly, crazy or not crazy Kuhn should be head. By level of mafia brains and bossness (I made that up) this is how the main family's succession should go: Kuhn, Kim, Kinn.
His quirkiness makes others underestimate him, which he could of used very nicely as the head of the family. Again, despite his parculiruties and seemingly self centeredness, hsi hyper aware and present. He cares deeply for his brothers and bodyguards. I love the way Tong brought this character to life. Showing me that you can be as eccentric has f*** and still be boss!!!
