It was meant for binge watching, not once per week airing. it is not just about the gaetals and the leads backstory. Even the killed bad guys have their own story. So it must be told. Like the first three votes related to true cases in Korea. Some of the cases even related to each other. The lead stories were revealed one by one, and by episode 8, we already knew a lot. I think the pace is okay.

The major trauma, which I think you mean about KSJ is just one part of the whole big picture and we can see in episode 7 that Joo Hyun was also there 8 years ago why LMS killed and how he got away (minor details that many missed since episode 2).
It is also revealed that the gaetals have their reasons to kill and how they organized things, which make sense in the later episodes. There are also fake gaetals trying to take advantage of the situations (which make us rethink the whole gaetal things).
Love this drama. Just straight to the point, no dragging or playing with words or cringeworthy moments. And the villains (including the professor) are damn smart. Why Park Hae Jin is so handsome? OMG.
