I think your friend didn't read extra chapters and became confused after reading the ending chapter. In the ending she came back to home and Ml was waiting for him in her room. this scene was like their first encounter when she saw him for fist time. then she smiled and they kissed each other. In extra chapters story continue and ML propose to him and they marry each other.

I really don't understand why people become to offensive in this kind of story when there is cousins or some close family member included. In the past most of the marriages was between two near family members or even in some country they married their own siblings to have same bloodline. I always take xianxia dramas as historical dramas that with only one difference: they are happened in different universe. And even, in this story, fl didn't have special feeling toward her cousin from what I read in the spoilers of novel.
I hope they release season 2 on time and don't make us suffer cus of waiting to much...
