My only issue arises when others start attacking the audience for not feeling the same discomfort. I'm quite used to it, any time a show dips into darker themes, some people swoop in to lecture the audience on morality. And look, it’s fine if someone feels uncomfortable, that’s their prerogative. But what gets frustrating is when people start attacking others, throwing around accusations of being “mental” or worse, just because they can separate fiction from reality. This happens constantly, not just here but with almost every dark-themed show. Instead of respecting different perspectives, it turns into a moral battleground, which honestly, takes all the fun out of enjoying a story for what it is aka fiction.
Here’s my two cents. First, let me say I respect everyone’s perspective but for me, that scene wasn’t controversial at all. I don’t mix fiction with reality and this show thrives in morally gray territory. The main characters are assassins and that’s undeniably romanticized, I mean hot killers making crime look cool, right? Fiction has always taken liberties with dark themes and that’s fine because it’s not reality. A forced kiss in real life is problematic but in fiction, it’s a narrative tool. It’s used to explore power dynamics or conflicts that drive the story forward. Plus, in this specific case, Fadel clearly wanted it as much as Style did (as proven by the final scene) and it was a kiss, not a full-on sex scene. For me, it’s all fiction and I treat it as such, so who they kiss, kill, or fall for is all part of the story, and I’m just here to enjoy it tbh.
