I see your point, it definitely overshadows a lot of relevant comments however as you said, this is a public place and as long as the conversations are strictly related to the show then it is within their rights to continue with it. Most of us just feel impatient, stuck in their house because of the pandemic, working from home etc so we spend most of our time in here discussing the show, there are little games in between such as guessing the characters and so on but again those are in a way about the series itself with that being said --- spamming to me is usually when the same text is being posted several times which isn't really the case in here.
As for the group chat suggestion, a lot of the people in here aren't comfortable enough to share private information and mdl allows you to discuss with people in a easier and anonymous way.
