For those who want to read the completed novel translation; here's the link: https://mydramanovel.com/the-rise-of-ning/
this is an excellent translation of the novel, far superior to the usual MTL stuff out there. it's a completely immersive and moving story with lots of ups and downs. i highly recommend not only this novel, but also the wide range of other modern and historical novels they have on their site.
Quite a few of us who love the drama are not Japanese teenage girls! but international grow up audience. I hope…
you are wrong yet again bc it's certainly not just women watching and enjoying this show, though of course, they predominantly form the majority. in any case, there is absolutely nothing wrong with content that's made to cater to women and young girls. everyone seeks entertainment to be transported to a different world. people don't watch crime thrillers bc they want to murder people or imagine themselves as victims, men don't religiously follow sports bc they want to be out there on the field instead of the actual players. it's all just escapism—a means to put down whatever you're dealing with in real life, and be immersed in something completely different even if it's only for a moment. so you being condescending about women enjoying this drama solely for the purpose of "fantasizing" about korean men is not only inaccurate but also such an ugly thing to say. i bet it felt good to write that post feeling smug and superior that your taste is somehow too refined this drama, and putting down women for enjoying some silly, little romance. this show is flawed and clearly not for everyone, but there's really no need to be an asshole about it.
just finished watching episode 4 with english subs on netflix japan, and i have to say this is my favorite episode so far. yuri slowly coming to terms with her feelings for taeoh is really sweet. taeoh continues lighting up the screen every time he is on. his frequent use of the lucky yun stickers just make my day. i like hanaoka more and more with each episode. his drunken gomen~~~ was both hilarious and adorable. hope they sub episode 5 soon!
Lol, he studies the environment and animal ecosytems and goes off to do an internship in chocolate sales. That's…
the company makes chocolates and products from discarded cacao shells, and is focused on conservation of environmental resources. it's a little bit of a stretch, but not completely implausible.
thank you so much for sharing! this is incredibly helpful, and really helps me understand how the book and drama differed from one another. i was also wondering about their physical chemistry, and it sounds like the book had more kisses and skinship? is she 15 in the novel too? like a 15 year old modern teenager? or is she older?
not op but i have a question! it seems the novel was spicier than the show? i loved how they portrayed their dynamic in the show, and owing to her age and both of their inexperience, i understand why their love veered more on the pure side than passionate. but i'm curious if the book was more overt with their physical chemistry.
I found it hard to pity her because the drama did not really do the best job of showing her suffering. We were…
she has had no formal education, no etiquette training, no socialization outside of her house, so it's understandable she doesn't know how to behave around the emperor or be proper in society. remember she even needed to be told to bow in front of the emperor during their first meeting. we're following her journey as she is quite literally flung into the thick of social limelight out of nowhere. it makes sense that she would fumble and make mistakes.
On the carriage, LBY and CSS were silent for a while."Why don't you say something?" LBY said.CSS said confidently,…
ahhhh, this was such a joy to read! you are so generous for these translations. might i suggest posting them on archiveofourown (ao3)? you'd be able to post all of your translations in one place and receive feedback and love, and for viewers, it'd be easier to find and navigate than mdl. there's already a lltg tag on ao3 though there are only chinese fics on there right now: https://archiveofourown.org/tags/%E6%98%9F%E6%B1%89%E7%81%BF%E7%83%82%20%7C%20Love%20Like%20the%20Galaxy%20(TV)/works

ep 2 is machine generated translation so it's a little wonky (eg: it calls taeoh "thames" a few times) but generally alright
