Wei Ying likes pretty lady, even in the novel. Its not until later he realized his feeling toward Lan Zhan. About Lan Zhan attitude toward Wei Ying,he never annoyed, its just him being tsundere. Even his brother, the one that understand him the most, comment on it multiple times.
I watch this drama first too before read the novel and my first impression are the director trying hard to give romantic subtext as much as much as they can despite the censorship. That look they gave to each other, the whole Xuanwu Cave(the jealousy scene, lan Zhan singing to weiying), the whole drunk scene. I can see so many hint even before reading the novel.

Well said. I know with how high the rating were, there would be people that think this drama didnt deserve the rating it got. But personally, aside from technical problem, I am pretty confident with the story and its characters. Thanks to the high rating, more people trying to watch this show. To each of their own. To think about the relationship between wwx and lwj, don't think of them as best bud. They are a completely different personality that think highly of each other. And completely smitten with each other lol. The drama actually make them closer compared to the novel, they change the event that happened in the present to the past so that they spend more time with each other. Because why else would lwj care so much about wwx of they not that close? In the novel, lwj hide secret love toward wwx but they cant so that 'reason' because of censorship. Actually in the novel, when wwx hear that lwj going against his clan and being whipped until he has to rest for years, thats what make him realize that lwj secretly love him. So that reunion are not because they're best friend, but its more about lwj longing. That scene actually the one that started my obsession with this drama. Seeing that look in lwj eyes make me "omg.. omg.. he's in too deep" maybe bc I'm fans of romance or smtg ????. If you want more plot and better made, maybe you could watch the anime. This drama is low budget, so i just accept it as it is. Most bl adaptation are low budget, because I think they still dont believe it can reach to wider audience. Like some user here said, this story is about wei wuxian journey. He is the "untamed". Part of the charm of course how likable he was, he also one of best MC that I've seen. Other than him, there are also many complex character, even the villain.Its have great theme and great dialogues even. The romance/bromance, even though not the main plot, also part why this show being loved because how great their relationship are.
Watch it first. So you wont be biased and want it to be 100℅ similar to original (which is impossible seeing how tight the censorship are). I watch the drama first before reading the novel and even though I regret some of the changes, I love some new things that they add to the drama
The difference between 9 and 10 are small. Some people think that this drama deserve 10 and signal 9,why cringe? This site also give rewatch value its own section and even though i think signal good, i never want to rewatch that drama.i still prefer tunnel that i hold dearly.
