bingewatched for 2 days (well neets do have more free time). I get so many laughs from this version. It really feels so Comical and with Shoujo Manga unrealistic funny moments. I agree with the "current criticism" for this version BUT
Remember that this is an Early 2000s show. Many moments here are politically incorrect now and if done in this era, is cancellable to the individuals. And to mention, the lack of worlwide social media for that time
The mob bullying is not that funny right now. with the "woke" generation and ofc on that aspect it is right.. But yeah , from the 2000s lens this drama is "fine?" But rly problematic with 2021,2022 viewpoint.
2nd BUT, the side characters OTH are fun. Still unrealistically comical and now cliche...well technically those moments are not cliche since those shoujo mangas were early adapters. You can't call the 1st passengers "bandwagon"

I felt like maybe they could've flesh it out to not feel rushed. But if they really need to pack exact arcs in the manga for a 9 cour series, we are forced to understand

yeah. I agree (I havent watched the 2018 adaptation) but this drama is kinda passable and I think tasteful for the early 2000s to mid 2000s era. Well, many of the heisei era shoujo mangas were full of tropes..but well they werent kinda trope back then..but the situations from the early fictions/dramas has been named "trope" now since many subsequent medias kind of reusing..
long story short. many of the elements of this adaptation is more charming for that era (and this series are really shoujo manga-is , the 3 bully aristocratic girls laughing oh ho ho ho)...and yeah I'll expect for the latest adaptation to be more fleshed out because of modern production, scriptwriting, and direction of the present era.
