Just watched the previews, but are Prince Li and Ye Ying dead? Was it like that in the novel?
At this point, almost nothing we're watching follows the novel exactly. Only a few bits are being taken and then twisted into a completely different direction.

There was a scene where Ye Li was running down the mountain wearing a mask, but her senior brothers stopped her.
I think she was trying to seek help from the soldiers. However, since the plague seemed to be something new, they might not have had a cure or even understood how dangerous it was.
Maybe the academy chose to keep the situation contained rather than risk spreading the plague further. If it reached the capital, QD would have had the perfect excuse to intervene in the academy's affairs, and they could have been blamed for causing the outbreak.
I also have another theory: what if the Marquis and CD were actually behind the plague? 👀
