yes exactly. That's the kind of mess I want on Only Friends - Raffy being hella confused, Rome being furious with the brother he doesn't like anyway. Dean getting hurt and maybe not always trying to appease Jack after his jealous rage... This sounds like fun, like proper drama treating its fans like adults.
This is gonna be long (that's what she didn't say) but I have a theory so hear me out: what is this show wasn't planned from the start to be an Only Friends season two? Cause it doesn't actually feel like only friends.
Only Friends was about a group of friends that seems pretty tight and now let's mess up everything. This is not how this show started, everyone know everyone sure, but they aren't the scooby gang trope. It makes much more sense if the initial idea was regular college drama closer to We Are, where the stories are connected and intertwined but at the basis of it we are following three separate romantic story lines.
This might also explain why this show is not as mature as season 1, cause what season 1 mature wasn't the NCs, it was the writing and the trust they put in the fans to be able to handle the ~scandalous~ reality that sometimes in drama actors kiss and even sleep with other character than their OTP.
This allowed for better development of the story. For example in the first series style of writing when Dean challenges Jack to "show him how to do it" when it comes to kissing, he'd have kissed either Arnold or even the set up would be such that would make sense for him to kiss Raffy. This is a much more charged response that would drive all the drama forward.
Also, we would've seen Boston and Tua first time together so we could feel the impact it had on Tua much better. The NC between Boston and Nick in episode 9(?), they're make up sx, is important because we can see the change in Boston. Without it, the affect of everything that happens afterward wouldn't be as impactful.
So yeah, I wonder if they were gonna go in a different direction, and maybe one or more of the CPs asked or signed on to the project with a promise not to film NC scenes (and even kisses) with other actors, and that's why this doesn't actually feel like season 2 but a different show.

have you seen the first ever trailer for the first season of Only Friends? cause it was just as bad if not worse..... these trailers are shot before the project even officially start pre-production in order to gain interests, it says nothing about the quality of the actual show.

disagree, we got a glimpse to how his father raised him, he was taught not to see love as either possible or worthy (or both). We saw him starting to change in the last episodes and Nick turning away from him at NYE clearly hurt him.
