oh nono i think u are misunderstanding. the only time their heart stopped was when they were struck by the meteoroid, basically that was the time they spent as players. if they die in the games during that, they die irl. they aren't in a coma at that point. after clearing the games in borderland, they got a choice ie. to wake up into the real world or to stay in a coma (and as citizens). they only die when they lose a game.
