how good is this?

pretty good so far! the chemistry between the two leads is amazing and the FL is level headed and actually thinks things through and doesnt act like a blind idiot. another plus is that the ML figures out the FL is a girl very early on (like ep 4). just keep in mind that this drama is mainly focused on the romance so the mystery cases aren't super mindblowingly complex or anything. i recommend you to give it a try!

I've read the douban reviews and all i've mainly seen is bad plot and bad dubbing and lots of ppl calling shen yue too ugly/plain/short. i've seen a little bit of bad acting comment sprinkled in, but i still think the such low scores originates from bias since ppl have placed the original meteor garden too precious in their hearts. meteor garden 2018 is definitely not a stellar, oscar worthy, mindblowing drama but i do think a 3 rating on douban is rather harsh

I honestly think that MG 2018 was hyped too much and thus, people in China expected too much of the show. If this show was not labeled as a remake of Meteor Garden, it honestly would probably get a much higher rating on Douban (prolly like high 6 or low 7). The plot and acting for the original Meteor Garden aren't that great either tbh but it has such a high rating on douban mainly because of the nostalgia.
