"Kep/Keb" เก็บ (verb) to keep, to preserve, to put small pieces into one big piece. "Pandin" แผ่นดิน (noun) country, nation, piece of earth The 2020 version starring Ice Panuwat as Mintada, Pon Nawasch as Chulachart and Oom Isaya ("Kaew Klang Dong") as Punpasa. Even though Chompooo and I are quite skeptical about the quality of the drama from this production house; however, I would love to give it a try. -------- Background: This drama is based on the story of an ethnic armed group in Myanmar (Burma). Since the country consists of many ethnic groups such as Shan (10%), Karen/Kachin (7%), Kayin, Chinese and Mon versus the majority Bamar(68%). This large amount of diversity has caused the internal conflict since the independence in 1948, which resulted in a large number of deaths and refugees. The ceasefires and peace agreements between these ethnic groups and the Myanmar government become a success in 2015. Several figures in this drama are referred to real people during the wartime but the names and some details have been altered. This drama was written after two important events from Karen students who studying in Thailand and called themselves, God's Army, raid the Burmese Embassy in Thailand in 1999 of which the leaders were the twin of 12 years old, and again the invasion to a Thai hospital near the border of Myanmar in the following year that held about 1000 patients and hospital workers as hostages. That might be the reason why this drama got lots of attention after it came out in 2001. ------------------------ Notes: 1. Nobody injured from the first invasion. Thai government sent those students back to their base at the border of Thailand. Many years later, the twin married and have families. I found this information from a newspaper and TV report in 2017 and 2018. As for the second invasion, many kidnappers were shot to dead, some were arrested, some could escape. 2. Thai official reports the number of legal immigrant workers 2.8 million people this year, more than half of them are from Myanmar. Glad to know that :) Since I expected this to show in the subtitle but it didn't show. I was pretty disappointed. Glad to know, really! Otherwise, my feeling is still clingy to the ending.
Hmm...I have sort of mixed feelings after done watching. I still can't find the right words to describe this drama. The character of Yun Hai pinned it and the plot in general is not bad either. Well, perhaps the ending was twisted and i didn't prepare for it. Anyway, I would rate it 9/10.
Now, I just watched ep 15 and wonder how the role of Park Sam Soo will develop in the future with the replacement. It will be totally weird when the same guy act by two different people. So far, I like the drama very much.
