I think this series packs it very well. I give a simple explanation in the last episode:
1. Arm hit Ryu's girlfriend (named Pin). Arm told Ryu when they were close, even when Arm already knew that Ryu had cancer and still loved him even when Arm knew Ryu's life might not be long. However, Ryu couldn't do it and went away from Arm for years.
2. Ryu managed to recover from cancer because of surgery, but his memory was lost. After that Ryu returned to the village where he worked with Arm and his younger brother Run (Run was confused why Ryu wanted to live there). < time gap > Arm met Ryu on a bridge that hung a wooden hanger named, he tried to introduce himself again
3. < time gap > Ryu finally remembered Arm, they decided to live in the tourist village and start a new life.

regarding the filler series, this actually happens in episode 6-7 (this is the peak of the filler. Episode 8 really focuses on ryu and arm and the conflict resolution. I think episode 8 is the most wise ending.

I don't know, but there are so many differences in the scenes and costumes in this series with the pilot trailer on YouTube. What happened? So far the main story remains the same, but some of the changes are very striking. The main scenes are the same, but the differences in the background and costumes in my opinion are not as good and as good as in the pilot trailer.
