It's by the same director that did WBL, my tooth your love, and unknown and there's def similarities in the directing and cinematography. just two eps in, but so far it's really good! feels like its been a while since we had a good taiwanese show. also, turns out the main CP have known each other for 5 years and are good friends so that def helps with their pairing.
rewatching (for the 4th of 5th time lol) and just processing that taichi has three part time jobs, kohei's classes (in a major very different from his own), AND his own classes (allegedly, though we don't ever see it). how he manages to be upright is totally beyond me.
i just realized this was written by the same person who did that’s my candy and that explains so much about this train wreck. i was hoping for Boun and Prem to have a proper little mini series from which they could develop their acting, leading up to Between Us, but this script is such a mess there’s no chance for that.
As a Korean living in Korea, most of your opinions are wrong.1. This is not a Netflix drama. The drama was funded…
haha i know. it was worth a shot. i felt like it would be hypocritical of me to not say something even though i assumed it would be futile. my goal for this year is to be better at confronting shit. but at this point it’s no longer worth it so i’m done with that conversation.

“외국한테 칭찬받기 위해 한국이 변화하고 있다” lol You think koreans who support equality and lgbtq rights and want their country to change do it because they want approval from the west? You really don’t have an understanding on how civil rights movements work, do you? Their history, the intentions, it has nothing to do with foreigners.
You seem so proud of being homophobic…To think that in 2022 there are still who don’t realize that being called a homophobe is an insult. I honestly kinda feel bad for you and level of ignorance. What a pitiful way to live life, especially if you’re only 20. Tragic. Good luck in this world. With mainstream korean media becoming more accepting and representing lgtbq stories, your country, your culture will change, move forward, leaving you behind.

I’m not sure why you keep implying I’m interfering? I’m having a conversation with you. I have no power to have any impact of korean laws or culture. Develop at your own pace, have change happen at your pace, absolutely.
My point is simply for you to understand that even your individual thoughts and opinions cause harm and are violent to the LGBTQ community in Korea and the rest of the world.
Just wait? Yes, I am waiting. I’ll continue waiting, and hoping, that people everywhere, in all countries, not just Korea, can stop being hateful and ignorant by using the excuse of culture and history and law. It’s honestly an insult to your own culture to use it as a shield for hate. And it is hate by the way, in case you think otherwise. The laws, these opinions, it’s all an expression of hate towards a community of people.

anger against racism, homophobia, and sexism, among other types of discrimination is always understandable. the thoughts and actions behind this kind of discrimination is inherently violent. “not respecting” an individual or a community on the simple ground of who they are/the religion they believe in/the colour of their skin/etc. — it’s all an act of violence. So if people in that community, or those supporting that community react in anger, it’s both understandable and justified. Sure everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but being gay isn’t an opinion it’s an aspect of identity. anyone choosing to have negative, misinformated opinions about someone’s identity should expect anger in return. if ACB’s perspective on life is being attacked, then in return, a whole community’s way of being and life is being attacked. Two wrongs don’t make a right, but yes, I understand it.

I’m talking about what the LGBTQ community in korea wants, not foreigners. Do you think they don’t want the law changed? This isn’t about “individual freedom”. It’s about basic rights. It’s also not about comparing korean culture and law to other countries. Every place is different and that’s great. But being homophobic (like being racist, or sexist) just shouldn’t be considered as an aspect of culture. Just like how killing someone is wrong no matter where you are in the world, being homophobic and racists should be considered wrong everywhere.
Also abortion was decriminalized in korea in 2021. So that’s not illegal.

I think Boyslove is understandable in their anger. My personality is just different but it’s rather awful to be in a society where we have to ask for people to realize we’re no different than them—to ask people to give us respect because we just regular human beings. It’s so horrible to have laws that don’t recognize us as people with basic rights like marrying the person we love. The law is supposed to treat everyone equally, and yet it discriminate against so many. It’s only natural to feel anger at that unfairness

I’m not from western society and in fact come from a society that is also highly conservative. But being conservative actually just means relying on a historical understanding. Science has shown that being gay is not a mental illness. Just as people used to think the earth was flat or that we were the only planet in the universe, science told us otherwise.
If you have a child that is LGBTQ and you choose to scold them, know that this will cause a trauma for them, that they might be afraid of you, even hate you. By wanting them to be straight when they are not, that means you don’t want them to be happy.
And you asking people to be open minded to korean culture when you are not open to LGBTQ culture. Its the same thing. Like you’re example with King Sejong, homosexuality has always existed, it’s not something new. People didn’t understand back then just like they didn’t know so many thing about the way the world works.

as a 20-something living in modern society you certainly don’t need to respect other people. Sure. We’re not here to parent you, tell you to be a decent human that respects others. However, it’s a social responsibility to educate yourself before disseminating false information, particularly for things pertaining to health/science. There’s no reason to be ignorant on that. Being socially conservative is a bad thing when in it infringes on someone’s rights, and causes pain, even trauma to others. Just as I would hope you would feel angered by “conservative” people in many other parts of the world being racist towards you becuase you’re Korean, I hope you can eventually understand that such “lack of respect” is actually an issue.
also, you hate the episode because of a scene that maybe took up 5 minutes? “when her father lost consciousness, she walked out with her partner (not friend lol)” your issue here is that she didn’t care for her father in that moment. so, if she was holding hands with a boyfriend, you would still hate the episode, right? her being part of the LGBTQ community has no bearing on her decision to walk away from her father. Need I list K-dramas to you that show straight men and women who are absolutely horrendous to their parents? (Frankly, we don’t need dramas to give example of that, but since this discussion is about how korean society is depicted in cinema we’ll stick to that). You can hate the episode, but think about your reasons. What exactly are you calling immoral — her actions or the fact that she doesn’t fit into your idea of who it is acceptable to love.
(and there aren’t “few homosexuals” lol. you obviously don’t keep the company of folks from the LGBTQ community so it really wouldn’t make sense for you try and quantify the population)
I know that this is the world view you’ve grown up in, and turning away from that is incredibly difficult, but I truly hope you can find time to think more about this, and do more research. Hear from people in the community rather than those that share your perspective. Being open-minded is an important life-skill.
I couldn't get through the first ep, but that might be partly the Kim/Copter PTSD I've developed after 2 seasons…
It’s better that those two (but that’s such a painfully low bar to beat that’s not saying much)…. it’s fine if you’re bored/in need of something to watch. I did have a finger on the fast forward button admittedly, just to push things alongs a bit.
vaguely concerned about this writing/direction team though. been massively disappointed with their past shows for the most part, and this doesn’t seem to be P’Cheewin’s style at all. Then again maybe this is really his style it’ll fare better than his other shows? idk what to expect.
well. i’d be okay with the “let’s go for the nonsensical” route if it was at least fun…. a well written show can land it’s humour even if you don’t know the specific reference (though many were obvious if you watch a lot of thai programs). Comedy is about the delivery not about the reference. And the the delivery, largely because of the writing and direction just fell so flat.
In Ep 13, changhee outburst scene is good, Mother death scene is heartbreaking 💔 but remaining everything seems…
he became a gangster (and established himself as the top/near top) before he spiralled into alcoholism. so whatever personality we see now, is not what he would have had before.
lol, are there legal gangsters? they have to be pulling something shady to be gangsters. in this case I think it's the money they're making from the host bars/gambling joint places... tax fraud amongst other things? they've never delved too much into it obviously, what he does in that world was largely irrelevant for the past 12 episodes except as something he was running away from/avoiding the hell out of.
curious as to how you're counting the years though! why 2-3 years of timeskip? feel like I missed something lol I even skimmed back through the ep cause a few people mentioned 2-3 years. it seemed like just 1.5 year of skip (as in mr. gu's scenes are 1-1.5 years after he left).
Episode 13 thoughts: The stroller! And the baby was always carried, it wasn't in the stroller in any scenes though.…
my guess is the alcohol dependency but also what seems to be lack of sleep/insomnia + malnutrition, all of which makes one feel way colder than average, plus would lead to a general jitteriness/tremble. Consistently when he's outside in this episode, we see him shivering even as other characters aren't, not just in the beginning.
that stroller is such a great shot! it be one thing seeing a baby in such a place, but the empty stroller has a greater I think. like the dude just left the stroller wherever to go drink. and it hits home what the bartender said s- "it must have been like a bird flew in" cause the workers care for the baby and are so taken by this child in the midst of the environment their in.
Can they, though? They've been in so many horrible productions that I'm starting to wonder if we like the idea…
I think it’s a bit of both. We probably do like the idea of Kimmon & Copter more than the actual to a certain extent… but I see the potential in them as actors and think they’d have the ability to carry off a good script with more serious characters. I don’t think I’ve liked a single script they’ve had so far, but that tells me there’s something about their acting that convinces me enough to stick with their shows. But yes, regardless of skinship amounts, I’m so done with overly immature cutesy characters and at this point.

that twist was tragic.
