Title Super Rich
1 episode with 54 min?!?!?!?!
the episode count likely isnt out yet, so it's at 1 episode for now. or it just hasn't been updated, but it'll likely be 10-12 episodes.

Show keeps getting better (was never bad), but the score keeps going down for some reason......
mdl is largely kdrama fans, so jdramas are judged more 'harshly' despite being obviously having a much different audience. this being a japanese remake of a korean drama doesn't help either, so chances are anything that is 'different' is gonna bring the score down for diehard fans of the original. (at least this is what i've seen thus far as a mainly jdrama watcher on this site)

its always the well written m/f dramas that come through with good side character gay rep, huh? first colorful love and now this, if this become a trend i won't be complaining.

unless its a bait and switch. but considering how they've put arisu's (likely) feelings for micchi on the same level as wataru's for izumi, i really hope its not. its always a nice surprise realising theres lgbt characters in a show i enjoy.

This is such a typical comment from someone with your viewpoint. NO ONE asked for "graphic onscreen sex." NO ONE.…
'someone with your viewpoint'? what viewpoint? that i don't think sex is the be-all end-all of relationships? i admit the statement of 'graphic onscreen sex' was hyperbole but like i said, tin and siu muk don't have to be 'intimate' to like eachother. do i think they dropped the ball on their relationship a bit? yes, but my issue is that the show already expresses that these two are comfortable around eachother. tin is physically affectionate with siu muk and in episode 12 we're shown that he's fine with doing 'couple-y' things with him, just that he's not entirely comfortable with anything beyond that. (and since he used to be uncomfortable with looking like a couple w/ siu muk, it shows that he's grown and he might become more comfortable with other things in the future, with time.) intimacy is an issue in asian lgbt shows because there's always the question of 'is it censorship or not'. here, i don't think it particularly is because the only two kiss scenes have been between tin and siu muk. physical intimacy is something than can come with a romantic relationship, not something that has to be there. and it's not something that can just be jumped into- for some, sex requires a degree of trust and comfortableness.

and when i said i related to tin traversing with his sexuality, i meant mostly how he dealt with it. realising you like the opposite gender doesn't mean you're going to experiment with it physically. tin isn't going to immediately start kissing men and having sex with them after discovering he likes one after 27 years of assuming he was straight. maybe some people would do so, and that's fine, but tin's shown to not really understand his sexuality and doesn't know how to go about it. and i said it reminds me of my relationship with my sexuality when i first realised it, not that it was at all 'good'. my whole POINT was that some things in this show are shitty but people can relate to them, or are you just misconstruing my points on purpose?

(also, side point, but 'no sex drive'? he's clearly attracted to women, why else would he say stuff about wanting a woman with big tits in the first episode. also, i think you're confusing sexuality as an attraction to a gender with sexuality as a form of sexual desire. sexuality is a sort of umbrella term for who you're attracted to, it doesn't equal actual sexual desire. i was referring to his bisexuality and not his ability to be sexually attracted to people.)

anyways i don't give a fuck about sex, people can have it if they want and im not going to cry if its in a show/movie. it's a thing that happens and its not something bad- that was never my point. for some gay people, being able to have sex could mean alot for them, but acting like im some sort of prude for saying that two characters dont have to prove their sexuality via sex is stupid, my point is that all sorts of different relationships exist. my partner is asexual, i'm not, but my love for them doesn't change at all. sex can mean different things for different people- and for tin, sex and physical intimacies might not be on the top of his list. it might be something he can grow to become comfortable with, but it's certainly not a requirement- especially not right after coming out.

arguments are different than actual discussion and commenting things like 'how the hell can you like this show its shit' does absolutely nothing. again, my point was that people don't need to be brawling about it. plus i never said it upset me, i was just commenting on it. you're assuming quite a lot of things about me from one singular comment.

this comment section is an absolute shit show. i'm glad people are sharing their opinions but jesus christ please stop having internet brawls in each others posts. i think criticizing this show is perfectly okay but people are still allowed to like it and find it meaningful to them. some of these experiences may or may not resonate with you, lgbt or not, and i don't think its really fair to go 'how can you like this show blah blah' when its not really...a bad thing to do so.

like i think some of siu muk's actions in ep 12 are questionable and badly-written but they're still poignant to me as an lgbt person, and especially tin's way of traversing his sexuality reminds me of when i first discovered i was bisexual. its scary to be an lgbt person and i think at the very least, ossan's love wants to explore that fear. maybe it's not particularly well done, but it doesnt mean that people can't find something in it.

also there's some things being said that feel just a little...gross. so carmen and ping can clearly be into eachother but not have to kiss/have sex, but tin and siu muk don't and suddenly its a problem? making gay couples have to 'prove' that they're gay via sex is really just an awful thing. just because they're fictional characters doesn't mean you get to question their sexuality bc they're not having graphic onscreen sex.

Maybe they're building up KK and Darren as a couple. Kurosawa ends up with Maki's ex on the original.
That's what I was thinking and while it's not something I'd be against, I'd prefer more development for the main couple and not side couples. The scene just feels like the show is going 'hey, be sympathetic towards these two pleaaase' rather than setting them up.

It's interesting to me how they've had, what, 10 episodes to develop the main couple but decided to keep it pretty much 1 to 1 with the original while fleshing out literally anyone else imaginable. Seriously why do we have a scene of Darren and KK bonding over cheating on their wives and not respecting boundaries but Tin and SM never sit down and actually *talk* about what the hell is going on??? I don't expect SM to have to walk Tin through what it means to date a man but seriously, he either should've made sure Tin knew what he was getting into or realise that dating Tin when he's already been forced into a semi-relationship with someone he couldn't really say no to miiiiight not be the best idea. I get that SM wasn't expecting Tin to say yes but come on, Tin probably thought SM was going to leave him if he didn't agree.

I knew this was coming but I honestly thought there was nowhere else to go but up with the originals fucky pacing and plot. I've already sat through two shitty shows and a semi-okay movie so I'm not going to drop this, I just want to make sure Tin gets a happy ending. Fuck every other character in this show. (Besides Carmen because she keeps me semi-sane in this shitshow)

I finally figured out what was bugging me about this show. It's the fact that it's trying to separate itself from the original drama and be its own thing, but still can't help but take scenes wholesale from said drama. I personally don't really mind this inherently, don't change what's not broken, but these two parts of the show really clash in my opinion.

Maybe it's too early to judge because we're only just past the halfway mark, but I've noticed that there's a good chunk of scenes/character dynamics between the main cast that are original to this adaptation (eg Carmen and Ping's developing relationship, Carmen's friendship with both Tin and Siu Muk, Louis' relationships with Tze Chin and Francesca being more fleshed out) whereas (usually romantic) scenes with Tin and Siu (and to an extent, Tin and KK) are just straight from the Japanese version. And that wouldn't be awful if Tin wasn't already further developed compared to his counterpart, so him acting like Haruta feels like he's regressed. Not to mention how scenes with Tin and Siu that are actually original feel natural and like the two really get along, instead of 'Tin says something stupid and Siu gets angry at him but never explains why' so on and so forth.

I could just be nitpicking, and this might just be the show trying to get over its first big wave before smooth sailing, but I just want some sense of consistent character writing. I really love Tin and seeing him flip flop from an emotionally intelligent but childish man to a complete idiot that keeps fucking up is getting a little annoying. If they're going to try and write him better than Haruta was written in the original, it'd just be nice if they didn't revert it everytime romance is brought up. (Siu Muk's attitude towards Tin feels similar but that inconsistency might be purposeful so I'm not too caught up about it)

One caveat to my almost total love for this series: Does it seem unrealistic to anyone else that with Tin being…
Nah, you're completely right. It's odd to me that in the original japanese drama we see a lot of Haruta being confused by how Maki makes him feel yet Tin doesn't seem to have any thoughts on Siu other than 'oh, he has feelings for me'. I think they're trying to have Tin and Siu's relationship be developed more physically, like how Tin is super comfortable being touchy-feely with him but it'd be nice if they showed more of Tin's inner thoughts. I feel similar with Siu, since we're told he likes Tin but he expresses it rarely and purposefully gets himself jealous by inviting Tze Chin over to stay. Hopefully we see more development next episode with their relationship moving forward but with how everything else seems fleshed out compared to the original , Tin and Siu's relationship sort of falls flat since the show seems to love its heterosexual cast more.

Someone who watched this show on an illegal streaming site really said quote *Thanks for the effort ig, but wouldn't…
its amazing how little self awareness people who watch on illegal sites have, like it would take five seconds to download subs straight from the subber and its much better quality but apparently thats way too much effort for them. they tend to be a vocal minority but it genuinely seems like they don't understand that people actually take the time to sub these shows themselves and aren't just dropped onto illegal sites lol.
