No mother is straight up ruthless even FML said she trapped them. She has controlled every aspect of her sons life to this point. In her mind she wants the gold standard as she pointed out he was gold and she was beneath her standards. This is why alot of Asian young adults hide their relationships at first so they don't have to be grilled about all the usual bombardment of questions to qualify in their eyes their prospective partners. Even on blind dates they match them based on this criteria. She used that dinner to find out about this girl. Yes she was hoping her son found a good match. But it backfired on her as the girl became more interested in him when he stood up for her. But the mom was upset she did not like the girl and her son stood up to her, She can't handle not controlling every choice he makes if it does not fit her vision of what is best for him. She is so toxic. It is just the culture. It blows my mind that Asian teenagers notoriously are told they can't date or highly discouraged till they get to college, then after years of studying they still can't just enjoy their life. The parents are always pushing them on blind dates and to get into a relationship and start a family with the right guy/girl they approve of. They can never make their parents happy. Every time I see these dramas where these overbearing parents are pushing them on blind dates it makes my blood boil. I could never deal with those kind of mother in laws. In Korea it's so bad the birth rate has just plummeted and many refuse to marry or have kids as sometimes they are expected to move in with the husband's family when kid is born in alot of these families the mother has total control. I am just guessing because I can relate from past experience lol! But if I had to guess The father met the "first" girl and he probably really loved her as much as a narcissist could love anyone. He probably never saw her as wife material and knew family would never approve of her background. She was never his "wife" but became a mistress who probably had full knowledge of the new wife and son and had to grin and bear it until the wife found out about his secret family. He even said "she got pregnant" My guess is she actually trapped him because he had money and thought if she had his kid he would never leave and be set. She never expected that his family would choose another girl from an aristocratic family instead and have a legit male heir. That trumped her son as illegitimate.
The mother could not handle she was discarded and became second choice. It was her ego and pride. In many ways her toxic love her her son destroyed him. All she wanted was to win against the "wife and her son"So she pushed her son to be the best for ego and pride hoping other son would be huge disappointment. Here is also a fact the mother could not deal with. When Axiao mother killed herself she probably thought well now i can be with him and my son can be with his father but instead he went to another woman which was even more of a slap in the face. Since I can't read the Chinese text on Mango TVS previews I am not sure if what I saw in previews was correct. It looked like they eloped and got married? Then dad cut off credit cards and money. I thought they had to be 20 to get married in China? That would definitely upset him if she married him and then anulled the marriage saying she never loved him! As of right now it looks like Daniel Zhous song only official soundtrack song out now. But there have been about 14 songs played in the drama by various artists that have not been confirmed to be part of the "official' soundtrack, If you do a YT search or Spotify under ost or soundtrack for drama you will see them. For instance Sunburn is an older song but played in the show. I think this is a drama that will have alot of official and unofficial music. Frozen Heart is an older song too and plays in end credits.

This drama reminds me soooo much of" The Heirs" His love for her reminds me so much of Kim Tan and how brutal it was when his girl was sent away by his Rich family and he did not no where she was. If you want to see heartbreak watch the scene when he finds her gone after he just got an apt for them to live in. This drama definitely has that vibe of "The Heirs" Two questions? Did the grandma kill herself? I feel like she took her own life. I know in novel mother talked her out of the surgery. Is Lu going to get stabbed before he leaves protecting her? I also want to say I have been in a similar situation with the half brothers and its brutal. My son is really messed up over it and he and his half brother and sister always treated him like the black sheep. He is from an uber rich family too but treated like The older brother in the drama. I also know what it is like to find out the man you loved kept a secret woman and a baby from you. When I tell you the pain and thoughts that went through my head when i found out, So I can understand Lu mom losing her mind over it. In this case Lus mom was totally innocent she knew nothing about the other woman and she was the legit wife. Not sure if the other woman who got pregnant knew about the wife. I am almost sure she did and decided to stay as his mistress. When the wife found out she and the illegitimate kid was tossed aside. I am not sure why Lu does not just take Wan overseas with him? I could literally write my own drama over what happened to me lol!
