Yep thats standard, anything you do thats even remotely work related, even in your own time can be claimed as intellectual property by your employer.
There has been a few cases here where someone has come up with a good idea, but it was so close after leaving their previous job and along similar lines that the old employer claimed I.P. rights because they must of been thinking about it (at least) while employed by them, some old employers won and some lost.
My advice is don't even think about it, those of us who are still here commenting have stuck with it because we invested too much time thinking it would get better now we just want to finish it and then forget about it.
